But to be the reigning champs and the Top 4 players in your state (for the next cycle) going elsewhere….that’s wild.

That has as much to do with circumstance as anything. Of the guys going elsewhere, only Downs, Burley, and Haynes were UGA targets of significance.

Georgia is not Louisiana. Louisiana has (as a whole) kids that are born and raised in state and are life long LSU fans.
Georgia has had a huge influx of people (due to various reasons) from all over the country, and as a whole does not enjoy the loyalty that LSU enjoys.

Add to that, that Kirby does go after the very best recruits from all over the country and we have what we have. There will be years in which we will take local kids heavily, and other years where we recruit on more of a national level.

Georgia(the state) will be loaded with top level talent next recruiting cycle, and we will probably be more state heavy.

Bama went through this when Saban prioritized out of state recruits. We have lost our on some top kids, mainly to Clemson. It happens. Sometimes talented kids from out of state just want to come more than in state kids and sometimes those kids are valued higher than the in state kids. Both coaches no exactly what they are doing. There is always going to be some in state kids that just want to do something else.

Alabama could build a championship roster with mostly Alabama kids. But it would never be as consistent as we have seen the last 15 years.

I’ve just had to accept that it won’t matter how deep of a year the state of Alabama has. Saban will generally take 6-10 Alabama kids and rest are regional and national prospects.

Exactly. Its not as bad as it looks for UGA. They'll get theirs, they won't suffer much.

I always laugh when I read high school coaches are upset that State U bypassed their local kid for higher rated prospects elsewhere. They'd be the first ones to kick little Jimmy from down the street to the bench if they could get a Cam Newton or Jadaveon Clowney to transfer in to their school.

Besides, any HS coach who tries to prevent their hotshot player from going to any college (in-state or not) because they are holding a grudge from previous recruiting years should immediately be fired.

Maybe it is more wild that it’s happening and it doesn’t even matter because we recruit Florida so well.

Not to mention that they happily send their kids to OOS schools where they are taking some other local kid’s spot, by their own logic. They only really want the loyalty to work one way, with the university bending over backward to attempt to sign local players who show little real tendency to favor staying home.

I'm acting like a bitch because I'm not upset that UGA only has 4 of the top 20 commits in Georgia during the month of July? We'll still finish with a top 3-5 class like we do every year.

Go play in traffic little one.

Who acts that way? the poster who takes unwarranted and ill informed shots at a team, or the one who makes a comment sarcastically to show the original poster is way off base?

I mean seriously. Is Georgia recruiting suffering because we concentrate nationally instead of locally? Give us a serious answer. If not, then what is the point of this thread?

It would hurt more if it was at a position of need for Georgia like WR or RB...oh wait...

Thankfully, neither are positions of need this year.

So if Milton and McIntosh leave, you have Branson, Edwards and Paul for 2023. And you feel good about that?

Daijun Edwards was our closer last year when Milton was nic'd. He looks good. Capable of being inside and outside and contributing in the passing game.

Then it will be Branson & Paul.

We have a pwo Sevaughn Clark who is good for reps. And whomever comes in 2023.

We did lose a cycle in 2021 where lovasea carrol moved to DB because we had too many backs. And then he transferred out this offseason. He was the only back in the 2021 class.

Georgia will sign a RB this year, and probably a pretty good one.

Probably because it’s a position of need. If he is top 100 he is gonna see significant playing time in 2023.

Happy to help.

Most dawg fans will be excited to see more of edwards. He comes off as a lunch pail kid fighting for every inch. He has some slippery to him and often finds that extra 2-4 yards through the tackle.
He is capable of being productive against 80% of the schedule (even when they know he is getting touches). The question mark is the other 20% (0 touches against Bama in 2 games and against Kentucky which was the 2nd best run defense we faced last year).

I don’t think this IF is likely, but we have a shot to sign Richard young from Florida.
