Rivals gave him the top spot defensively of the competitors at the RCS in Birmingham. Complimented his physique and his 1-on-1s because of his quick burst and coverage skills.

FWIW Other '14 LBs included Tre Williams at #3, and Petera Wilson at #4 on the top 10.

He's talented enough to contribute as a freshman at Alabama in 2014. He'll have a chance to make a bigger impact in 2015.
Ehhh, in 2014, I wouldn't go that far.

In mop up duty, maybe. He will still have to jump over guys like Ryan Anderson, Trey DePriest, Denzell Duvall, Reggie Ragland, Reuben Foster, and Dillon Lee. I'm not sure where exactly Jonathan Allen will be, but he's another that will likely be ahead of him.

I didn't even view Shaun Dion Hamilton as a linebacker that would play a lot at Auburn as a freshman, so I definitely don't see it at Alabama.

Anderson, Devall, and Lee are all OLBs. Jonathan Allen is expected to start out there as well. Trey DePreist will be a Senior inside in '14.

Bama uses 3 ILBs at the very least every season, and 4-5 overall play.

'14 ILBs:

DePriest
Ragland
Foster
Jones(Could move to SAM)
*Recruit
*Recruit

DePriest comes off the books for '15, opening spots in the starting lineup and in the #3 spot.

Very plausible he could see the field as a freshman at Bama, and even in the rotation in '15.

I think Jones will be a player for us eventually. Also I think we take Hamilton or Williams. Dont see them going to the same school.

I would. If you're going to make the "depth chart" argument, at least familiarize where our LBs are playing at in the four spots.

I threw out everyone because I had/have no idea what specific position Shaun Dion Hamilton is being recruited for. However, my opinion remains. I don't see him as a Dont'a Hightower, CJ Moseley, or Nico Johnson where they came in and played a lot as true freshmen for Alabama. I guess he could be on the field if you're that thin on the interior (that's where I'm assuming he'll be playing).

I want Auburn to get him, but I still wouldn't even see him playing much as a freshman for us and we are terrible, or unproven (the players we feel will be good eventually), at every linebacker position. I think he'd do good with a redshirt year.

If he wants PT, Tennessee is a no-brainer. All we have is AJ Johnson (lacks speed) and Curt Maggitt (injury prone) and the rest are scrubs unless Brent Brewer steps up, which is unlikely. I think we only signed 2 LB's last year (still baffles me), 1 needs a redshirt and the other got moved to DE.

I think he stays in state though.

EDIT: We basically signed no LB's last year (the only one got moved to DE) and signed 1 the year before that was a "scramble" signing because the 2 we had flipped the day before NSD. Dooley was a cancer to this program, I hate him more than Kiffin.

I agree, but he could also pick Auburn if playing time is what he's looking for (doubt that's the case, though).

Remember, we have Jake Holland... I don't think I need to explain any further with him. Then we have, what I would call, an up and coming star in Cass McKinzy. He's only going to be a sophomore, though, and there's no telling what will happen. Same thing with Kris Frost. He's going to be a redshirt sophomore, but he was in a defense under Gene Chizik for 2 years so he'll have some adjustments to make. Mainly, we have some talent, it's just unproven. No idea what 2013 holds in store.

We're running the 4-2-5, so if Tennessee is still running the 3-4, they have the advantage on playing time availability.

We're going back to the 4-3 so i guess there's still a little more time there that can be offered compared to the 4-2-5. At least Auburn has unproven talent. Tennessee just has bodies, and not many of those at that.

I agree though, PT isn't going to be a deciding factor for Hamilton.

What changed for SDH being to small for LB at Bama. No flame, just curious.. I remember some bama posters early on saying he was too small.

I just always assumed he was a player that Alabama would fall back on if they missed on a couple others.

It was said because the staff said directly to him "we'd like to see if you get any taller before we offer". They loved everything else about him, they just like LBs a littler taller than roughly 6 foot. They liked him enough to eventually bypass that preference and offer.

Bama is likely taking 2 to 3 ILBs for '14, they are looking to restock.
