TJ Yeldon had an Alabama offer the entire time. They never slow-played him in favor of someone else.

The circumstances between the two are/were completely different.

Why did Yeldon flip then?

Gus Malzahn was hired as the Arky State head coach, and Curtis Luper (TJ Yeldon's position coach) was openly shopping around for another job (mainly UAB).

You're kidding yourself if you don't think a flip is a possibility.

It's a possibility, but Yeldon was an easier pull for us.

I'm the one that has always been open to admitting Racean Thomas would flip if Alabama started recruiting him like Leonard Fournette. I've said it since day 1. I'm just trying to explain that the TJ Yeldon and Racean Thomas situations are completely different all the way around.

I never got why Malzahn ever left for Arky State. There's no way they were able to pay more Gus Bus more than AU was.

HC > OC pretty easy. He was still making a lot of money.

Chizik was interfering too much and he knew he needed to get HC experience. I am sure he probably wished he had took the Vandy gig, but it has worked out well for him in the end, or at least well in the sense of a legitimate opportunity.

Joe Medley said Roc got a slight concussion. He said Roc should be back next week.

Yeldon situation was different. Yeldon gave Bama staff every indication that he wanted to flip. They kept recruiting him bc he was too talented to give up on and he was always in TTown. Most felt from mid October on that it was only a matter of time. Yeldon tried to decomitt from AU twice and was talked out of it by Luper. That's why he flipped how and when he did.

Roc isn't in TTown much at all and doesn't give staff same vibe. Not saying things can't change, but as of early September of their respective recruitments, the aren't as similar as you might think.

yeldon also had a high school teammate committed to bama who was constantly in his ear, and made it easier to take those trips to tuscaloosa. I'm still confused on why we never got in on Anderson... he seemed like a better fit for our four man front to begin with... but that's the way it goes.

His film from last year was just sick...Thought it was the best RB film I had ever seen. I was hoping he'd slip through the cracks and end up at OM...but alas...

Kind of lucky for Auburn (as far as such things can be considered lucky) that Bama brought in such a crop in the backfield last NSD. They can afford to concentrate heavily on LF and not be devastated if they don't get him. If the issue was more pressing, they'd be giving Roc the full-court press too and trying to bring in both.

Kind of the opposite of LSU choosing to have a sparse crop last NSD so they could concentrate on LF. Frankly, I think Bama's strategy there was better. And Auburn reaps the indirect benefits.
