I wouldn't want to hear that as a fan. They are fun to follow from afar, but I would hope coaches value their own rankings more than that of any recruiting website.

This. I would be extremely worried about Freeze's comment. See the Auburn fan's comment about the Trooper/Luper view on this subject as Exhibit A.

He never said he based his evaluations off of rankings, he simply said he wants the class to be highly ranked.

The Miami staff actually based their offers off of recruiting site evaluations.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to using team rankings as a bragging point rather than pursuing a 4 star over a 3 star

So he's like those unemployed Miami coaches from a few years back that relied on Rivals in their recruiting department? Seems about right.

Actually not at all.

The great thing is that those tend to go hand in hand! Horray! Win win!

Do people really think he isn't going to bring players in without following through with evals as well?

This.

He didn't say "I use Rivals.com as my source on recruiting," he simply said that he does care about where the class finishes in recruiting. Like has been explained already, it's a publicity thing. It also helps in recruiting when you can tell an athlete that he is going to be a part of a top-10 class, or that he will be in a class along with the number one player at a particular position, or things along those lines.

shite, y'all know that even Nick Saban uses that pitch when recruiting. Don't be so damn naïve.

actually it would surprise me if Saban even has to go past the point of holding out his hands and telling the recruit "kiss the rings, bitch".
