I'm not saying they weren't. But, from a statistical point of view....you have a much greater chance of being All American or Drafted into the NFL if you initially were a 5*. This is proven fact every year. Every year.
There are always going to be lowly rated players getting drafted and making AA teams simply because there are more of them. But, the %'s prove that 5* players pan out much better.

Take this last draft:
Of the 32 1st rounders, 4 were 5* according to Rivals.com out of high school.
14 were 4*'s.
But, any given year there only about 30 5* players, so the % of 5*s drafted in the 1st round equals 13.3%.
For 4*s, there are at least 300 any given year. So, the % of 4*s drafted in the 1st round equals 4.7%
Just this 1 NFL draft alone, 5* players out of high school proved to be nearly 3X higher 1st round draft probability than 4* players
