It is known as the "Texas bump". A bunch of second-rate players artificially inflated to ensure Texas has a good class.
I've avoided this thread and the shitty arse Texas/Aggy slapfight in it, and am already regretting this reply, but just because you say it and just because you hear it in the AgEcho chamber of Lucci/Hamm/etc doesn't make it truth.
with the ability to track 247's updates on players you can actually quantify and measure this now. It's not like the old days where they'd change the LSR 100 or Lucci 44 and unless someone had archived it or you used the wayback machine you couldn't know.
here's 247's evil "Texas Bump"

247 playing games with stars again for the sips. Tyler Owens rises more than 600 spots to 5* status, despite Texas being his only decent offer. Then let us look at the loser Hookfin. He's risen over 1000 spots in roughly the same time, choosing between the powers of Texas and almighty Baylor. Jared Wiley, who the sips stole from mighty KSU gets bumped almost 600 spots on the very last day. Washington will go from 3* to 4* status, LB Gbenda who TCU didn't even want will suddenly get a bump as well. You can go and look at half of their "lower-ranked" players to see the same kind of movement ... it is truly eye-opening
Their only legitimate ratings bump is Whittington, who wasn't an addition after swing and miss on everyone decent ... early commitment. But you cannot expect more when the ratings are run and influenced by at least three well-known sips - and 247 is in Texas back pocket.
Somehow, Texas went from #9 to #5 in one day on the composite, without adding a single player. All while these "star" players have no legitimate offers (except Whittington), and are in fact leftovers after they lost out on the best players ...
We see it every year to some extent. Last year, Texas had a legitimately great DB class, so it wasn't as obvious. This year, it's like a magic trick ...
You should really look at the "offer lists" at this point, which is how I do it. This supposed high-ceiling athlete is all that - potential. Unless they commit to Texas, then they deserve a massive ratings bump, because ... Texas
It's a joke

No the same one Fisher tried to flip in the Spring. Don't be naive I know it's hard for you

Most of the bump happened before Texas offered, when they first started showing interest. Go look at Tyler Owens offer list and tell me that is a 5* player. You cannot. Do the same for Hookfin. Etc, etc ...
Here is just a sample of the offer list for Hill - #1-rated safety
Here is the offer list for Owens - the Texas bump beneficiary
That took a whole five minutes of google to pull up ... it is even better for Hookfin

Baylor Cupp is the #16 overall player on 247.

You're so spun up about Owens that you can't take a fricking second to breath and look at the fricking chart. The total change for the entire class since initial ranking is -32. There's no better way to factor a "Texas Bump", regardless of when it happened (pre- or post- offer/commitment is made irrelevant) than by analyzing the recruit's INITIAL ratings and their FINAL ratings. The Texas class is down -32 spots in the 247 rankings.

Baylor Cupp is hardly better than Liebrock lol
QB Texas
RB it's a wash
WR Texas
TE Wash
OL A&M
DL Texas... I've seen rumblings where Mowry is flaky as well.
LB Texas
DB A&M
Yikes, what are you looking at?
QB - slight Texas
RB - slight A&M
WR - Texas
TE - A&M
OL - wash (if Shepherd flips, its clearly advantage A&M)
DL - A&M (even if you completely took Leal out, it would be a slight A&M advantage)
LB - Texas
DB - A&M

It's clockwork. Every year. Look at the huge jumps for a bunch of no-names with terrible offer sheets. In the end Texas will end up with a T5 class, because that is what 247 and Rivals wants. It sells subs
The best part of that is how Texas sucks so badly with so much "star power" on the field.
247 could give a rats arse about A&M, because 90% of the fanbase it at TexAgs, and it shows in their evaluations. We simply expect it these days - it's a miracle that Cupp and Leal got the recognition they deserve. So did Brian Williams, but he was downgraded from a 5* to 4* within weeks of committing to A&M. Like many others. The LSU downgrade should be a lot more worrisome.
Their class is full of studs with big-time offer sheets, but is behind a meh Texas group that has been artificially inflated. I think the LSU fans have a completely legitimate argument.

Apparently Texas is also getting Bru McCoy - set to transfer
Posted on 1/24/19 at 2:57 pm to The Scofflaw
That would be huge, cherry on the top of another elite class. The optics would also be hilarious, the dumpster fire that is USC & the aggy disdain.
Posted on 1/24/19 at 3:04 pm to EastTXHorn
McCoy would have to sit, because he is actively taking class at USC. Let's see if he's stupid enough to do it ... my guess is yes, because Tommy's been stirring the pot behind the scenes - something he is known for
An NCAA violation, but hey, they are Texas. Doesn't matter. Anything to prop up the burnt orange in the face of the threat from Fisher and Riley

A&M knows all about NCAA violations, all directly correlated to the majority of small success that poor program has ever had.

You have to be kidding. Texas recruits and former players actually admitted to being paid, just like Ole Miss. Lucky for them, they aren't Ole Miss. If you don't think EVERY program pays players, you are just ignorant.
Texas just doesn't have to worry about it because they have friends in the NCAA office. I expect them to try and pin something on Fisher soon enough, just like they did Jackie when he was kicking their arse all over the field

Can we take this to the bank, just like we did your Sugar Bowl predictions?
Posted on 1/24/19 at 3:22 pm to oman
Not my fault that UGA didn't show up for the Sugar Bowl. Should have known they didn't give a damn since Kirby couldn't even get his starters to practice. My bad. Let's see how the sips do against LSU next year. The game is in Austin, so it should be close
