Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall has withdrawn his name from the NCAA transfer portal.
I know Auburn and Florida were both actively recruiting him.
Rumor is grades are an issue holding up his ability to transfer.

Interesting turn of events. I was anxious to see him play at a P5 school to see what he could do in 2023.

For now.. I bet he will transfer again in may if his grades check out.

Is Drinkwitz looking for one?

So this is one situation, that I have actually have inside info.
Grades were not the issue, the issue is the major he isnt taking isnt offered by some of the schools he wants to transfer to. I don't know what his major is (I havent asked that) but it appears that the hang up was that a lot of his classes would end up as electives rather than towards a major

UF has his major, and he still could not qualify there.
Both AU and UF have reported he is a sports management major which is a big program at CC and UF also has it but AU does not, and that plus grades is what kept him out of AU and grades had a major impact on his eligibility at UF.
When this was first reported when his AU visit was abruptly cancelled there were several AU people that said he would more than likely end up back at CC and it looks like they were right.

I can also add that he add an NIL offer from ND at one point. I don't quite know what broke that down, but that was the first school to push for him. It would have been worth roughly 700k, so something must have happened. ill push for more info in a few days after things level out. Mostly because I want to know

A buddy of mine is the father of McCall's backup at Coastal.
He told me that McCall couldn't get enough credits to transfer anywhere to be immediately eligible. So, he probably stays until May and goes as a grad transfer.

That does make sense. I remember being told with AU it was something policy wise they had, I just couldnt remember the context so I assumed the bit about the majors was correct. He did tell me that Auburn sees coastal as basically a tech school academically .
How does him waiting to transfer hurt him? Surely big programs will have their QB's by then

I expect he will do what JT Daniels did- announce where he's going sometime in early spring, skip spring practice and focus on graduating.
Fun fact- Kirby and the staff allowed JTD to use the team facilities all spring prior to him graduating and going to Morgantown. I suspect Coastal will do likewise.

If he’s not able to transfer to AU or UF, Notre Dame is definitely out for him so not sure what other info you need on that.. They are strict on their requirements, much like Stanford/Vandy etc…..its one of the reasons that Brian Kelly made the move to LSU.

Is your HC going to wait until then to get him to Auburn?

Can now confirm this.
he was taking like 12 credit hours a semester. his GPA is roughly 3.9.
The schools he wanted wouldnt take all his credits either way, but he just didnt take enough hours.
but my contact seems to not think that Grayson leaves after May fwiw. obviously a lot could happen

no shot. our room is really deep and Spencer is back. My buddy seems to think he stays, but if Florida losses this kid, I could see them coming after Grayson in the spring

I think we will too, if this happens. We're a QB away from being very good. I refuse the believe Drink is satisfied with the current QB play on his make or break year.
