1. I hate it for him. Seems like a good kid and good player and he wanted to come here.
2. Coaches livelihoods depend on the success they have on the field. If they feel they can get someone better they're going to. Much like any business that can hire better employees for the same price. You might be the nicest guy and most devoted employee, but if someone can do it better, you're going to get replaced.
3. It's a lesson in life, and it won't get any easier from this point forward. I hope he has much success and is able to have a fruitful career at Arky, save for one game a year.

The scholly limit is a Democratic solution to sharing the wealth. If a kid is willing to go to a University and ride the pine and the University is willing to pay for his education to do that, why shouldn't they be allowed to? The NCAA and smaller schools placing limits, in an effort to even the playing field is b.s. and has only hurt kids and cost some from going to college.

Yup he signed with Arky
Quote from Stevenson, his HS coach:
GREAT HS coach as well, hope TO GOD this doesn't mess us up with any more of his DL prospects
really hate this for Duke

Quote from Stevenson, his HS coach:
quote:
"The SEC limited the number of folks they can sign, so they got put in a bind," Stevenson said of the Crimson Tide. "Everybody knew it. Everybody was just trying to wait and see where it was going to spill out. I think the guys that can stay and use their time a little bit more was the direction they decided to go. The guys that got hurt that need more time to rehab."

Going from 85 to 80 is the dumbest thing ever. Population is growing and there are more quality players than ever. If anything it should be going up.

Besides have the #1 recruiting class for Rivals, 247sports, and ESPN - Alabama Crimson Tide wins Recruiting National Championship for Athlon Sports.

Yeah but how else are teams like Indiana, Memphis, and Kansas who don't give any support to their football programs supposed to compete?
It really is fricked up that they are basically trying to screw some kid who would have barely been good enough for a spot at Bama or Auburn out of that spot. Acting like it is in his best interest to go sit in a leaky locker room and lose 40 games in his career at a shite hole like Memphis.

That's the university's fault for putting less emphasis on football. Some schools are basketball schools, others are football schools. If schools want to win, they should throw more money and effort at the football program.

I still think the roster limit should be 100.

agree. it's politics. emmert and the ncaa are just trying to narrow the playing field between the sec and the rest of cfb.

From one of Philon's assistant coaches:
If you've been with Rivals a while, you know which poster this is...
quote:
About 2 weeks ago, Alabama came in & talked to him about a grey shirt. They explain it to him & everything. He said he didn't want to do it. They said OK. He had a legit signable offer from day 1. Everything was good for him to sign today. Well a few days ago, they came back & said that he had to grey shirt cause they had over signed. Now everything is crazy. Arkansas offered him a scholarship when they found out what was going on. Tenn, Florida, & Ole Miss, did the same. Clemson started recruiting him too. Philon showed up at signing day a mess. He had to leave the ceremony a couple times not knowing what he was going to do. During the ceremony he announced that he was still going to go to Bama. He ended up leaving the ceremony right after he said that. We found him out in the hall destroyed.
His injury had nothing to do with it. That is an excuse that some are trying to use. Philon played 3 football games on that knee after it happen. It all had to do with over signing.

I'm too poor to pay for a subscription. Is the guy legit?
Because if so, that's pretty fricked up.

Hate it for him if that's the case. Still, if that's the worst thing to happen to him in his life, to have have 5 colleges to choose from for a free education after not being able to go to the one he wants, he's going to be pretty fortunate.
Posted on 2/1/12 at 6:06 pm to Robot Santa
Meh. I hate it for him. I really wanted him at Alabama, but it's not the end of the world. He still would have had five nice offers to choose from. He seems like a great kid and will have a chance to develop his skills at Arkansas.

Yes, and he's really close with a bunch of his players(as you can see). He teases info from BJ Scott sometimes, but will never go into detail.
Some good, some bad...

Saban screwed the pooch on this one. The kid hadn't even taken a visit to another school since committing in September. Saban should have taken his pick on one of the two that announced today, and told the other that they were out of schollies.
