Need to keep Garner and Elarbee around for awhile.

I don't know what that means. But yeah, he doesn't slap coeds. He's just not a good cultural fit at Alabama.

It is a little weird, tbh. Could have just been the relationship, it's not unheard of. I'm hoping that's the case, anyway. But I trust Rodney Garner to identify talent.

Maybe Ross has great camps and his game day production isn’t as good. Some coaches see his ability and think they can bring out on the field at the next level.

A friend’s kid is a beast on the field. Ran 10.24 100 and 4.4 40. He was the All-Conference and All-State 2 years, but he had 2 bad camps. Tweaked his hamstring in the State 100m and wasn’t a 100% at the Arkansas camp and dropped a few passes he alway makes and didn’t participate in all the drills at KState. 247 player rating dropped to a 86.

He plays for a 7A high school in the Birmingham area. The school he plays for isn’t even in the top half of the schools in Birmingham. He is the best player on his team and I’m sure he sees double teams a lot along with teams not running to his side as much. In the last 4 years I think his high school has won more than 6 games 2 times. If he played for Hoover, or Hewitt Trussville where he had other talent around him, he would have better stats as he would see more one on one type situations.

Ryan Wingo plays for probably the worst football program in the STL metro. They have 21 wins in the last 7 years. He plays against D1 players every Friday and still makes plays and that’s one of the reason’s he is a top 10 player by 247. Some players have the ability to step up and play even when they know they can’t win. Other players have to be motivated and coached up. This could have turned some schools away that don’t want to spend NIL money on him.

The coaching staff at Tennessee might see his ability and think they can motivate him to be an impact player and willing to spend NIL money to get him.

I’d like to have him at Mizzou if things don’t work out with the Vols

Looks like 5* to me.
Receiving TD and Sack. Looks like great speed, and explosiveness to me. Vols got a good one.

I mean I would expect double digit sacks on the season for a kid rated this high. Those numbers need to come up from last year.

He is on his way. He had I believe 2 sacks last night and a TD. He may have double digit sacks and TD’s.

I think he gonna come close to doubling that number this year. He played well last night against state ranked Mountain Brook.

Do you need a lesson in Birmingham football?

No, Vestavia hasn’t kept up with the juggernauts of Hoover and Thompson (who is a historical dud and only recently made their way to the top of the food chain). But Vestavia is typically one of the better programs in the state. For a while, Vestavia was the only program to really challenge Hoover in the top of half of Alabama. Prattville and Daphne could give Hoover a good sparring, but regionally, it was Vestavia or no one.

Vestavia has 18 regional championships and two state titles.

They’ve struggled the past few years because legendary coach Buddy Anderson got old and took too long to retire. His replacement (Sean Calhoun) stayed one season before going back to Georgia.

I can’t speak for how good Jordan Ross actually is, but this thread seems to misunderstand the school he plays for. It’s a wealthy suburban school that has an extremely strong history of sports programs. Hell, look up the 1990s baseball results in Alabama - they won like 8 straight titles.

No thanks. I live in Gadsden and work in Bessemer. I am well aware about Bham football. I understand the rich history, but since 2010 they have won more than 7 games 3 times.

Vestavia is a nice area considering considering the locations to Bham.

Vestavia hasn’t been good for awhile. And you know this as well as I do.
2020- 4-4
2021- 4-7
2022- 7-5
2023- 1-0 to start.

His coach has even said he’s the best player in school history.

Best Edge Rusher

Jordan Ross shines off the edge

No player flashed more throughout the Polynesian Bowl than Tennessee EDGE signee Jordan Ross. The 6-foot-4.5, 220-pounder lived in the backfield all evening. Ross’s athleticism and dogged effort level popped off the screen. He showed an outstanding burst off the line of scrimmage, pushing offensive tackles into the backfield leading to multiple tackles for loss.

Early in the game we saw Ross beat touted Texas offensive tackle signee Brandon Baker around the edge to make a play in the backfield to end a drive. He flashed elite play speed on a number of occasions tracking down ball carriers in backside pursuit. Ross particularly made life tough for quarterback Dylan Raiola, delivering a few pops in the open field and bringing down the Nebraska signee for a sack late in the contest.

Now you see why he is rated so high. I think he climbs even higher in the overall final rankings.

I have heard so many times that teams stopped recruiting him, he was overrated, he will be exposed when facing top talent, and so on.

Well I’m fairly sure the Under Armor All American game has top talent, and the Polynesian Bowl had elite talent. Not only did he stand out, but he dominated other top players. Looks like he simply told other schools to frick off after he committed to UT. Bama would surely take him now with everything they lost.

He's a specimen, but he has not performed on the field. Only 2 sacks and 10 TFL last year.

So the new rankings are out after the All American games and would you have it, Ross jumped 31 spots. He is now rated #9 by 247 and #7 by On3. But I guess he’s a bust right? On3 and 247 both have him ranked as the #1 edge in his class.

Guess all those guys he dominated at the All American games where bust also right?

On3 Ranking #7

Or maybe he just had a great senior year. 23 TFL and 12.5 sacks.

Texas definitely wanted him. He’s a good pickup.
