Honestly I'm a little more worried about McKinley than Simmons. We need interior more.

All that money and you still can't make the Big 12 championship, and the team you lost to got absolutely fricking blasted in the playoff, UT being back is nothing but a fricking dream

Less than Simmons. LSU made a competitive offer and will be able to pull McKinley if he isn’t determined to go out of state. Very few programs can afford to pay 1.8 mil for 1 recruit. Texas can now, but only time will tell how that pans out or whether it is sustainable. I have my doubts.
Texas couldn’t afford to lose this battle for PR reasons, and the program/fans are desperate to become relevant again. Throwing that kind of money around for one huge class might be what Texas needs to get back to the top, but it might also become an example of what not to do and/or what needs to change for the NCAA going forward. This is all very new.
Congrats to Texas for doing what it needed to in this case. We will see how things play out over the next few years.

I don't think I disagree with the strategy.
If NIL happened in 2013, I'd absolutely have wanted LSU to drop a huge bag for Fournette. He meant that much to the program at the time.

UGA just lost out on Bolden supposedly because they wouldn't pay up front, they wait and pay starters but pay them well.
I wonder if Bama went all out last class and is holding back some for this one to spend in 2025, which looks to be a better class. They already have some good recruits committed in '25. Theres also a chance players know they will probably not be playing for Saban by the time they leave and just aren't interested in getting in that situation.
Looking from the outside in, it seems like South Carolina picks 1 or 2 guys per year they have a shot at via genuine interest and they just throw the bag at them.
Lot of factors go into what you can do with NIL so each school does it a bit differently.

This seems to be what Kelly wants to do as well. We're doing well, but there's always the chance we lose a 5 star if money is the biggest factor.
Smart has the advantage of some very recent high success.
