This one should cause some emotional distress at GT and UF

This is a big kid that’s going to be good. I would think, our S/C folks will turn this guy into a monster. Look, what they did with Wilson.

Expected this for a while. His interest in UF plateaued a while ago. Should be a good player at UGA.

Mullen is letting UGA take these guys. He knows that he's so far ahead of Kirby in on field coaching that it wouldn't be fair if he got 4 star and 5 star recruits as well. ;-)

re: 4 star OT Joshua Braun commits to UGA
the only real question moving forward now about UGA offensive line is how does the Pitt Boss keep all these 4-5 stars happy? I mean the Dawgs 2nd string Offensive Line is probably more talented than 70-80% of most other Power 5 O-Lines. Gotta keep the non-starters out of the portal.

Hopefully they all get plenty of playing time rotating in and out. Fresh line all game long.

OL is one position where redshirting makes a ton of sense and the personalities of OL in general are such that they are willing to take that time to bulk up and learn. OLinemen are great because they tend to be the most selfless guys on the team by nature; they are doing a thankless task so their QB and RBs can get the glory and often times with one of the hardest assignments both physically and mentally on the field.

I remember one of the recruits a while back talking about something Pittman had pointed out relative to percentage of guys who end up with shoulder injuries in college relative to redshirting or something. It's such a hard jump, particularly in the SEC, that even the really highly rated guys can struggle to have success while remaining healthy.

We've been really fortunate with Andrew Thomas for sure.

I think the over-arching goal for Kirby's O-Line is to have a two deep better than anyone in the country so they can be rotated in and out throughout the entire game.

Meaning there really isn't a starting line but instead a 1A and a 1B O-Line.

We don't really do that though... And we have the depth. We really only rotate OL for a few reasons:
1) injury
2) blowout leads
3) in year 1 trying to figure out best fit (and a few times early in the season last year)

OL is so dependent on consistency that true "rotation" just doesn't happen there. What he *really* wants is a 2 deep so good that if you do *have* to make a change, there is no drop off. Secondarily, I'm sure he'd like for us to be up so much that we could swap out the OL, but with Fromm as the only viable QB, you can't afford to run the risk that your second best OL configuration gets him hurt.

Every starter on the OL last year missed at least one game due to injury.

In fact, we were missing at least two starters for most of our key games in the SEC east.

Remarkable to have the depth such that we can withstand so many injuries there and not really miss a beat.

Agreed. I was only objecting with the idea that we do it "so they can be rotated in and out throughout the entire game." Just not something we're likely to ever do intentionally. But we sure as hell want the depth to be *able* to do that given the fact that they will pretty routinely have to make substitutions for injury or otherwise.

Wilson was a 5* OL and considered by ESPN the #2 recruit in the country. I don't think this is a good reference. I remember when Solomon Kindley was on campus for just a couple of months there were Dawg fans looking forward to seeing him on the line in 2017.

So this is hypothetical but I don't see why we couldn't rotate.

If you have a 1A Line that practices and plays together they develop their own chemistry and become one unit.

Then you have your 1B line which does the same thing.

That way you're not plugging and subbing which would disrupt the Line chemistry but instead you have two dominant Units who are equals in talent and can be interchanged throughout the game giving the other Unit rest.

The only position which might not be able to be replaced is the C. But I believe it could work with the Guards and Tackles.

Because there are some guys like Andrew Thomas, Isaiah Wynn, Lamont Gaillard, etc. that you never want to take out of the game unless they’re injured. If you’re going to sub 4 or 3 in, then you may as well just do it spot-by-spot as you see fit.
