James Cook

For the retards in the thread that want to pretend like James Cook is slow or living on his brothers ranking which makes no damn sense. You're looking at one of the best running backs in the nation. Sorry for your feelings.

Herp derp 4.7 speed and not really good. Shut the frick up loser.

His senior film is much better so far than his junior highlights. They split him out as a WR a lot. Very versatile player who will probably take over some of Deandre Swift's swiss army knife duties next season as Swift becomes more of a feature back.

I don't know that Swift will ever be a feature back. I'm not sold on him yet. He carries the ball very loose and turnovers will be a problem if doesn't correct it. I think Zamir White will be a feature back with Swift/Cook/Holyfield offsetting him. Zamir is going to be too good to keep out of the lineup and should command the totes.

I don't disagree on White. I don't think we will ever have one back that gets 25+ carries though. Three to five guys in steady rotation seems to be the gameplan under Smart/Chaney, and I expect that to continue into next season. I'd like to see Swift improve ball security, and with him being a true freshman, I don't think its unreasonable to expect him to make some strides there.

Agreed but he should get a similar load to Nick Chubb. Swift coming into a tired defense with his speed is perfect. I don't see Swift/Cook as carrying the load backs in Whites mold. They will drive defenses crazy coming in on 3rd downs and splitting the carries late in the game but I expect White to be the lead runner. I don't care that he's a true Freshman...he's that good.

No disagreement from me. White is a special talent. I think it will look similar to this season. Chubb is the lead dawg and gets the bulk of carries, but it isn't overwhelming, and Sony is close behind. By mid season of 2018, I think White gets the starts and most carries, Swift takes the Sony share, and the rest take a few carries and get looks in different packages

I could be completely wrong because Swift is lightning fast and could dominate the totes but he scares me every time he runs but if that gets corrected he me very well get the most carries in our group but I see him as the 1B behind 1A White. I figure Cook gets in the mix early but will settle for carries behind Holyfield as the 4th man in the mix. I can't see Herrien getting much work with this group as loaded as it is but he gets work this year so you never know. It's a damn good problem to have.

I actually see a lot of early Sony in him... his jump cut is looking *strong*... I think the thing I enjoyed the most about this footage was that it wasn't just a bunch of blow past the first tackle and it's wide open space to the endzone. There are a couple, but he actually adjusts runs on the fly to get significant additional yardage, and someone else said it either here or on another board, but his speed is deceptive and seems to catch DBs off guard, leaving them taking bad angles.

Reminded me a little bit of watching Laveon Bell. I know i'm comparing him to an NFL monster but his jump cut is fantastic. If he would follow his block like Laveon ....oh boy.

I don’t think people realize how scary our RBs could turn out to be. Zeus’ 7on7 is coached by the same guy who coached Gurley’s 7on7 and the coach said White is better than Gurley(he also said TG3 was better than Keith and got hammered for it).

D’Andre Swift is obviously going to be a Star, he’s the best all purpose back we’ve had since Knowshon. He may even turn out better.

James Cook is said to be very similar to his brother at his stage right now. He has tremendous footing and speed, rivals scout report says he’s farther along right now than Dalvin was at his age.

Holyfield is going to have a good year next year, he’s kind of a bowling ball runner with some more speed. Needless to say, it’s a great time to be a DAWG

I dunno... I don't really see it, but that's just me. Maybe in the fluidity while running... his ability to see the field, shift directions slight or major depending on what's gonna maximize the yardage... Le'Veon was still 220-230 coming out of HS... was thinking how insane to it was that he was a low 3* recruit (~80 rating) with only 4 offers total, and Mich St was his only P5 offer. So pulled up his HS footage...

Honestly, I'd say this is a testament to his desire/effort and Dantonio's staff and their ability to develop...

After watching Bell's junior clips...it's amazing he even got a Michigan State offer.

Oh, I can easily see him as a feature. I would be shocked if he is not. He is big, fast, physical, has good vision. You'll see him and White next year, with Cook taking over Swift's role. Holyfield and Herrien will share this years Herrien role.

Damn, nice pick up.

I guess I'm starting to understand how other fans feel about Bama. Reeling in Zamir White and James Cook when you've already got Holyfield and Swift on the roster
