Why would Malzahn bother offering an Auburn commit?

Most coaches offer scholorships to players because they want them to come play for him.

First off what's a scholorship? Secondly, and correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't Auburn a ton more prestigious than Arkansas State and I believe Auburn is in an even better league? It seems like a waste of time offering a kid who has already gotten an offer from a top 15 program.

If we lose another one to Arkansas State I swear to God.

You never know if you don't offer em.

Not since order was restored...didn't you hear...the sky is falling.
But seriously, Gus might not be too realistic, but you never know until you take a shot...otherwise you'll just end up with the fat girl at the end fo the night.

.....but yeah, QBs. Who do we get? (I know it's a 'moot discussion' but let's just speculate for the hell of it)

Buchanan/Rettig and Johnson

From 24/7

Right now, it looks like mostly the same group he’s been recruiting from the get-go, which includes Jeremy Johnson from Carver in Montgomery, Ala., Ryan Buchanan from Jackson Prep in Flowood, Miss., Hayden Rettig from Cathedral in Los Angeles, Calif., Austin Allen from Fayetteville (Ark.) High, Darryl Richardson from Armwood in Seffner, Fla., and Cord Sandberg from Manatee in Bradenton, Fla.

How those guys are ordered after this week will be a big factor in who the Tigers sign at the position. Of the ones mentioned, I expect the focus to be on one of the three of Johnson, Buchanan or Rettig. Look for a definitive answer to that question early next week.

You think JJ would come in as a second guy? Seems like he could end up at LSU as the #1.

Bryan Matthews and Justin Hokanson both believe currently that Johnson would come to AU with another QB if he got a firm offer.

In Oxford (Ala.) High School's spring game against Hueytown (Ala.) High School, junior Ulric Jones was like most starters in spring games in that he only got a few snaps. But during his time on the field, the 6-foot-6 and 250-pound defensive end made the most of his opportunities.
"Our spring game went well and we did good considering we didn't have half of our starters due to baseball and injuries," said Jones. "I didn't play much either and they kept a lot of starters limited so younger guys could play. I only played about 10 plays but I had five tackles on those 10 plays."
Overall this spring, Jones did feel good about the work he put in and the return on his efforts.
"I think I improved on a little bit of everything," said Jones. "It was definitely the best offseason I've had so far in high school. I got a lot better with my pass rush, moving my hands and with my speed and footwork."
While his play was limited in their final spring practice, Jones did see a steady flow of visitors this spring via college coaches. Owning offers from Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Troy and Idaho State, Jones believes that list could grow in the near future due to the attention shown this spring.
"Mississippi State, Southern Miss, LSU, Auburn and Arkansas State came by last week," said Jones. "I think LSU may be close to offering and they've been showing me a lot of interest lately. So has Southern Miss."
Last month, Jones held a Top 3 consisting of Auburn, Alabama and Mississippi State with the Tigers holding the edge. While his Top 3 remains unchanged, the team atop that list has flipped.
"Right now my hot points would be Alabama and then Auburn and Mississippi State," said Jones. "But I'm in no hurry to decide anything and I am just waiting things out. I do like how Alabama keeps in constant contact with me a lot and Auburn is not contacting me as much as they used to do."
Weren't you asking about this kid earlier today? I doubt he makes it into our class, but that's just my opinion.

Hey now, you shouldn't wish that fate on anyone....he's still got a chance with Southern Miss
Seriously though, he seems like a decent pick for whoever gets him
