I do too. My concern is with his accuracy/decision-making. He barely completed 50% of his passes his sophomore year and threw 20 INTs…
ETA: He had some games where he lit it up, and some where he was beyond terrible. For example:
12-34, 111 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT
13-39, 180 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
11-34, 140 yards, 1 TD, 5 INT
Yikes...
That's impressive...in a bad way

Umm, okay. Seeing as I haven't said anything negative in my posts.
Haha, I was being facetious. Sorry

Interceptions and completion percentages, in my opinion, are only a caution flag on QBs with inadequate arms. (in high school)
Reportedly, he looks great in drills. Throws the ball on the money, can make all the throws. Which tells me he has trouble reading defenses and potentially struggles with footwork or how to hit open receivers. I know it's sort of a bad word to use among Auburn fans these days, but he's potentially a project. High potential recruit with the physical and mental makeup but lacks the proper instruction.
So we'll see. If Frazier benefits from Lefty then I think Rettig could be a good option this year.

Agree with all of this. As I said before, I would gladly take Rettig, especially over Jeremy Johnson

Why would you gladly take Rettig over Johnson? Johnson seems to have a ton of upside and Lefty had a solid background with athletic QBs at both UF and Temple

I'm with AMM. I've seen Johnson in person and while he showed flashes of potential, I'm not sold on him yet. Plus he's not as mobile as most people think. He fits the Jason Campbell mold much better than the Cam mold.

Interesting post by Bryan Matthews regarding QB recruiting:

Olsen hasn't been a top target for Auburn even though he listed AU in his top 5. I don't consider Bateman "gone" but Auburn appears to be behind at the moment. Others to keep an eye on include Cody Thomas, Jeremy Johnson, Ryan Buchanan, Hayden Rettig and Austin Allen.
Loeffler is looking at a lot of quarterbacks this spring so there could be some surprises pop up.

Carl Lawson and Dee Liner will be rooming together at the Rivals 5-star challenge camp.

From Hoke:

Liner told me he would like to be at every Auburn home game next fall and he remains "100 percent" committed.
Auburn assistants Brian VanGorder and Trooper Taylor will be at Liner's spring game on Friday.

Interesting post by Bryan Matthews regarding QB recruiting:
Really not much of a surprise at all. Olsen is generally overrated and not on par with Thomas/Bateman and Rettig (on pure talent). Out of that group I'd put Thomas and Bateman at the top and pencil Rettig in as the guy who is more of a question mark but has the best pure arm of the group. Buchanan is hard to get a grip on right now with regards to how well he stacks up (his stock has been rising).
Thomas is also a top MLB prospect (2013 draft) and that could weigh in as a destination for him; although I'm not sure how serious he is about baseball. I'd estimate that given the fact that he is a top QB prospect that he'd need to be a very high (like Top ~20 or higher) draft pick to go baseball, and its hard to say right now if he'll progress that far in baseball.

Not completely accurate. Olsen is more talented than Thomas and Rettig. He has better footwork and a smoother delivery.

Buchanon plays in a league of preppy white kids with zero talent. Trust me, I'm from his hometown.

quote:Not so much this when it comes to Rettig. Olsen has been coached up better and, like you said, has better mechanics. But Rettig has the better arm. His release is quicker and he throws it with more velocity IMO. I believe he's more talented and has a higher ceiling than Olsen

Not even remotely true; but OK. I'd take both over Olsen and apparently so would Loeffler.
