Teams that score below 925 and have a student-athlete who both failed academically and left school can lose scholarships (up to 10 percent of their scholarships each year) under the immediate penalty structure.
Teams with Academic Progress Rates below 900 face additional sanctions, increasing in severity for each consecutive year the team fails to meet the standard.
Year 1: a public warning letter for poor performance
Year 2: restrictions on scholarships and practice time
Year 3: loss of postseason competition for the team (such as a bowl game or the men's basketball tournament)
Year 4: restricted membership status for an institution. The school's entire athletics program is penalized and will not be considered a part of Division I.[9]
The first penalties under the APR system were scheduled to be announced in December 2005. Starting with the 2008–09 academic year, bans from postseason competition were added to the penalty structure. The most severe penalty available is a one-year suspension of NCAA membership, which has not yet been assessed as of 2010–11.[10]
Prior to 2010–11, only four teams had received postseason bans. The results of the NCAA's APR report for that year, which covered 2006–07 through 2009–10, saw eight teams receive that penalty—five in men's basketball and three in football. Most notably, Southern University became the first school ever to receive APR-related postseason bans in two sports. The highest-profile penalty in that year's cycle was handed down to defending NCAA men's basketball champion Connecticut. The Huskies lost two scholarships for the 2011–12 season due to APR violations.[10] UConn would be barred from postseason play in 2012–13 due to APR penalties.[11]

I'm not sure but I think 925 or below results in penalties. At some point today the NCAA will issue a press release about the new APR scores and it usually has a paragraph about any schools that will be penalized as a result

I could see Ole Miss APR going down a bit more because of their head coaching issues and having to bring in JUCO and less academically strong players to fill voids. Houston Nutt seriously fricked them.

If only LSU would have taken Sabans advice...

Tennessee's will take a huge hit since Bray and Da'Rick won't be going to class this fall.

Maybe it will work out as well as their other package deals, but we will see. But to me it seems UGA hired the wrong coach.
Nope. Hiring a guy with 17 years of GAHS coaching experience and exprience running Under Armour camps was a horrible Idea for the position of On-Campus Recruiting director.
Never mind that Daryl Jones was only at Grayson for one or two years While Nkemdiche was a Freshman and Sophomore. And never mind that UGA had tried to hire Chad Simmons and Rusty Mansell before him, but had to rescind the two job offers because of evidence of recruiting violations in their respective pasts.
Daryl Jones: Terrible hire by a terrible Football program

We're 2nd highest in the conference in bball with an APR of 984. LSU and Arky might be in jeopardy of penalties with scores of 911 & 894 respectively

The AJC Georgia homer has an article that talks about Nkem's commitment, and he says that LSU was second not Bama.
Just so you know, Carvell has never been and never will be a Georgia homer. In fact, to illustrate how UGA fans feel about that scum sucking POS, here's a satire article that I think even you guys will love (written by a "Tyler Dawgden" to whom I have no relation. Just FYI)

Carvell is just a troll. Every piece he writes is usually slanted to piss off one fanbase or another (UGA, GT, Bama, etc...). And I absolutely hate the way he tweets the same article 10 different times using different hooks to try to draw people in. But ultimately I put up with him to get my GA recruiting fix. I certainly miss his predecessor, Chip Towers, I think it was.

Chip was a helluva lot better at the GAHS recruitn beat than as the UGA guy. I tend to avoid the AJC altogether on matters of Sports (and even then it's just to catch up on local news stories since their site is much easier to navigate than the TV news sites and is updated constantly. Can't stand any of the editorial pieces)

The AJC is a fricking joke for sports. The comments sections are usually gold, but the pieces themselves are garbage for the most part. The Braves and Falcons coverage is decent, but the writers aren't half as critical as they should be.

Why am I not surprised you feel this way?

I honestly haven't read a recruiting or college football piece from the AJC since I was in HS. Used to be that the only decent or semi-interesting thing they put out was the Super 11, and that has gone downhill way fast in recent years

The day they blame Fredi for Beachy blowing up his elbow is the day i go back to reading the AJC Sports section

I just want them to call him out for being an idiot without qualifying it with some stupid bullshite like "baseball is unpredictable" or "if the decision had worked we would all think he is a genius".

Took you long to reply. I knew someone would come forward to justify the hire. Again you would have done better to hire Conn. Oh well.
Posted on 6/20/12 at 1:47 pm to TideWarrior
Why would we hire Conn?
And it was tasty bait, but I just couldn't bring myself to grab at it immediately. had to wait to see if any of the other fish were going to go for it
