Those were my thoughts as well.

I'm sure I'll warm up to taking two QBs but this class has a chance to be truly epic. I'd hate to miss out on a 5-star player at another position just so we could have a little more QB depth.

Having an extra stud DB doesn't do you much good when your starting QB goes down with a shoulder injury and your only backups are freshmen.

We've yet to have a season with four QBs on scholarship. Hopefully that can happen in 2013.

I think we'll still make sure that we have room for the 5*s that are still interested in Bama, but I could see someone like Walker Jones (just an example) missing out on the class. That was my only issue with the 2nd QB as well. Ultimately, we can't take them all.

You have obviously forgotten the 2005 Alabama team. It wasn't the QB that went down, but our star WR. If it wasn't for those stud defensive players that team wouldn't have won 5 games.

Perhaps the recruiting guys are wrong about us only taking 24. If we take a full class I think McLeod won't hurt in regards to the elite players left on the board.

I don't think we can take more than 25 without having some guys opt to not sign LOIs. No room to backcount to last year.

The nice thing about McLeod if I ead it correctly is that him and Bateman will be EEs.

So next spring we will have AJ(if he stays another year) I think he will, Ely, Morris, Bateman, and McLeod. Nice competition going on at QB.

I thought some of last year backcounted, but could be wrong.

I meant 25 when I said a full class. We've all been assuming that this class would top out at 23-24. We could be wrong.

We signed 26 last year but I am pretty sure that atleast 3 backcounted. So could take 27 if we did not go over the 85. Even with the new rule change there is the midyear exception that a player can be replaced on the roster on the current year 85.

Also my understanding is if a player graduates in Dec or makes it clear they are leaving for the draft by a certian date they also can be replaced with the midyear exception.

You really want to compare our depth now to our depth then?

We will have 3 real QBs on the roster this fall. There is at least a chance that AJ declares for the draft, and Ely might transfer if Morris or Bateman pass him on the depth chart next spring.

I just don't see McLeod being anything more than a clipboard holder. We have a top 50 guy in this class already. We will probably sign a top 50 -100 guy in next years class, and we already have an "in" with arguably the top QB in the 2015 class, Kevin Dillman.

We'll be fine at QB moving forward.

I can't for the life of me remember why, but it seems to me we were only able to backcount 1 last year which is why we only signed 26. Could've had something to do with Carswell and Love greyshirting but not sure because I think they would've still counted against the 2010 class in terms of the 25 signing limit.

And the 85 limit isn't really an issue except when it comes to fitting in early enrollees. There's nothing stopping us from signing a class that puts at 100 going into summer.

It was my understanding that the new SEC recruiting rules went into effect in January of this year. Because of the rules not happening before January we were allowed to Back-count spots left in the 2011 class. I do not think we are allowed to back-count any longer so the hard number of 25 is in full effect this year forward.

No they added a midyear exemption for EEs if there was room on the current 85 roster to replace a current counter.

Basically like backcounting but a little more limited in some ways and more viable in others.

Just dropping back in to inform you guys you're witnessing a recruiting machine operating at a level never before seen in this sport......USC early/mid 2000's included.

If you guys only knew some of the players we've had to turn away over the past 6 months alone, you'd shat yourselves. I'll just say this, UGA and AU better thank the Lord we're only allowed 25 per year......

I was at Alabama for undergrad for 4 years and graduate school for 1 1/2 years and never stepped foot in that place.

It looked scurry.

UMAD Auburn's thread is barren of insiders while Bama's has 2?
