yea and televised event was a joke in itself. i remember last year on twitter all the reports had certain QBs showing out and doing really well then when it came time to pass out awards none of those guys were the top dogs. There were like several other factors they used that had nothing to do with the passing drills. they also seemed to prefer the kids who improved as the week went along instead of kids that were solid all week long, i guess it made for a better story.

And Elite 11 is so rigged, it is amusing. All the non-ESPN talent evaluators who were at the Atlanta regional were shaking their heads at the results there. It is a made for tv camp now. They want all the top QBs there and will rig the regionals any which way to get the most "photogenic" assortment they can.

Mine & Mag's previous eval of Paige's film for those that missed it:

Mine:

quote:
TY very much Mag, I'm assuming you've watched, would like to know what you think about Darius Paige

Here's my opinion:

Great upper body strength and explosion, makes lazy OL pay with violent hands, but horrible stance technique, almost a lean. disects run very well and is a very sure tackler, likes to play the run it seems more than the pass because of his technique, can push through double teams fairly easy, but that also needs work, won't be able to do it on SEC level, REALLY would like for the coaches to get him at camp and see against competition to earn the offer, but a physical specimen seems like with great feet and athleticism, reminds me a lot of a taller Josh Chapman, body type and athleticism like top 15 NFL Draft pick LSU DT Brockers IMHO

What do you think Mag?

Mag's:

quote:
Much of the same you do. IIRC B.T.W isn't the best school to get the proper coaching. It's been pretty spotty producing D-1 talent recently, after the likes of Jon Demps, Mike Taylor, and LaDarius Green a few years back.

I do like his size as a potential NG and that he does play it already, but that stance is wonky. I remember seeing James Carmon playing NG at his JuCo with a similar stance, ended up playing OT for State. But despite it, the end results are usually good for Paige.

Camps will be big for him, like it was for Lake last year. He's a little more on the map, but it's not like he's Adams or Liner. I can't check it since 247 is acting weird for me, but they had him ,at least at one point, over the likes of Maquedis Bain.

I wouldn't be opposed to him getting an offer as the NG in the class, but at some point Bama has to make these "project" NG, or rather just high school NGs, turn out. They got lucky with Chapman, and he wasn't even a full evaluation...

I just watched Paige's highlights and while I'm impressed, I do have a few concerns:

-I'm just gonna go ahead and say it, he is light in the arse. His upper body is very proportioned and he looks to have very good upper body strength, but his needs work on building up his legs and arse.
-Very good get off, but like the two of you, I think he needs major work on his stance.
-His pad level is all off due to his stance. He plays high and that will kill him in the SEC. Against interior SEC lineman he will be pushed straight out of the pocket unless he gets his leverage down.
-I love his attitude. He looks like a mean motherfricker attacking the ball carrier.
-I like his overall size too. He looks like he could add a good 10-15 pounds, hopefully in his lower body, and be a beast in the middle.
-I was hesitant to endorse his commitment, due to him not having an offer from any of the big Florida schools, but he looks like a very good prospect that our coaches could mold into a stud.

ETA: His stance doesn't really bother me if he was to play DE for us seeing as it's more of a DE stance than a DT. If he doesn't add weight he could play DE for us and that stance would be okay.

Thoughts?

Idk how good I feel about Allen now. Unless he just wants his commitment to be a big announcement. He almost committed to Florida and it doesn't look like he almost committed to Alabama.

He's been an Alabama fan his entire life. I like our chances with Allen. I just hope he doesn't fall victim to Nkemdiche possibly coming here and him feeling like Robert will be our Jack in this class. Truthfully, Nkemdiche will play DE when it is all said and done even though he is getting the Jack talk as well. He's just too damn big and athletic to place at OLB. He will, and should, be our true replacement for Dareus even though he may not get that big.

On another note, Paige is our 13th commitment in this class. That means we have 12 left and most of were having trouble fitting all these very good players into those spots due to missing out on a great prospect. Paige has definitely added to that dilemma. Anyone want to take a shot at our remaining spots now?

Allen, Thomas, Henry, nkemdiche, Robert foster, josh McNeil, crowder, poggi, Maurice smith, 1 of bell/Connor, walker jones and Demarcus walker. I think we don't get Langley or Beckwith/Williams. That's my best shot.

Didn't he just say he was gonna commit in two weeks? Don't get me wrong, I think we land him, but where are you getting this information?

One thing you can always count on is that 1/3 of the list that you make now will look nothing like signing day.

Allen(who I LOVE! I don't know if it's possible for the number 10 player to
be underrated, but I feel like he is. He's so quick off the ball and good with his hands.

Walker Jones

Derrick Henry

Santa Marina

Brown

nkemdiche

Conner

mo smith

poggi

mcniel

2 players off our radar

underrated

He's definitely underrated, alteast by our fanbase on the interwebz and ITT. He's got great size, and explodes off the ball. He already has good technique. High ceiling. I guess it's just him being overshadowed by RJ and RN.

Him committing would be huge.
