Well, I'm impressed.
6'4" 220 lbs. Runs by you or over you. A cannon for an arm.
Do want.

Swoopes is a hell of an athlete. However, in 6 minutes and change on a highlight reel he only threw the ball 12-13 times. I would really like to see him pass the ball more before commenting on his mechanics and arm strength.
Sidenote: He looks like he would make an excellent defensive player too.

Ya his statistics prove that he is a run first type of QB, at least in HS.

I still wanna see a run first QB in Bama's system before I say it would be a bad fit for the system. Nuss has catered his system around different type athletes at QB and I'm sure he could do the same at Bama.
Star Jackson and Nick Fanuzzi don't fall under that umbrella, as they were pass first QBs who were also decent athletes. Fanuzzi was a late grab after Marve waivered, I don't think much should have been thought about him in regards to contributing. Yet I was I was a big Fanuzzi fan

Ok let me get this straight. You want great WR's that will not come if there is not a system and players geared toward putting the ball in their hands on a regular basis. You want great Rb's that will not come unless there is a system geared toward putting the ball in their hands on a regular basis and a focus on an O-line to plow the way for them. AND you want to see a run first QB in our system that is specifically not geared toward a run first QB concept?
I know I am seem a bit confused but that is only because I am. How exactly do all of these concepts fit together in one system?

Just going off what you quoted from that article, it sounds like Ohio, Texas and then Alabama.
He is said to be a heavy Texas lean...TCU was at one point said to have some interest from him as well. I'm not sure how things will change
with Bama and OSU trying to get in the picture.
He is tight w/ Ricky Seals-Jones so a commit from one would help with the other...they'll both be at our junior day this weekend.

So the Aggies thinking they get him is false?

Those Aggies get a hold of some serious kool-aid on occasion.

Well if you want to get technical, that sounds like Bama the last few years.
You're making it sound like the full on triple option offense with this exaggeration though, you can have a striving offense with a running QB. Just because he's a raw QB at this point doesn't mean he'll be the same player by the time he starts. And I certainly never said anything about him starting as a true freshman or anything.
The QB would conform to Bama's system more so than the opposite. If Nuss keeps a lot of what McElwain had in place, that means the pistol is still in there, the QB draw is still in there, and the seldom used option play is still in there. The only thing that would really be different with the offense is having another running option at QB. I'll believe Bama will pass the ball more when I see it with my own eyes, it's still a ground team with game manager at QB.
And if Nuss is such a wiz at developing QBs, what should it matter what "type" he has to work with. Hell, he turned a Wing T QB into a 1st Round draft pick...

talked to Corch Urban Meyer today and got the full-on Tebow-laced sales pitch.
And I'm sure he'll get the "Vince Young sales pitch" from Mack Brown.
This is the fourth bonafide national QB we're after. I think it's very obvious that Coach Saban and Coach Nussemeir are intent on finding a NFL arm.

Back to the thread, Carver WR Marqui Hawkins on Bama:
That last part made me feel a little bad...until I found out he was one of those players who were caught taking stuff on a recruiting visit.
quote:
"I love Tuscaloosa. I just love it," Hawkins said. "The college atmosphere, how the players treat you when you get to the school, how the coaches treat you when they're recruiting (you).
"Alabama is one of my leaders, but at this point, I'll take anybody."

You do have a good point tho, a good running QB would add something to our offense that we do not currently have. That is why I was hoping Sims #2 would get some snaps this past year.
As for going to a heavy passing offense. Not gonna happen. We will likely add more down field stuff than we have run recently but the running game is a must to play to the strength of our defense.

Sims isnt a good runner though.

Phillip Sims may have less running ability than Andrew Zow.

Sim #2 meaning Blake. He is a good runner.

Ahhh, yes. My bad. He is indeed.

I would like to see them give Blake a shot at the zone read in the red zone against a couple of the light weights next year just to see what happened.

NC QB Riley Ferguson gets a Bama offer
quote:
“Anytime Alabama expresses interest, of course you’re going to be interested,” Ferguson said. “But when it’s coach Saban, that’s crazy. “They had been sending me mail for awhile and doing so pretty heavily, but that was the first time I’d actually talked with anyone there over the phone. Coach Saban and I talked, and he said he was going to offer me a scholarship. But if I wanted to commit, he wanted to see me throw in person first because he likes to get to know his quarterbacks first.”

So, he wanted to commit on the spot?
