I think the wording indicates May 1st preceding 2012, not the 2012-2013 school year. So If he had turned 19 before May 1st, 2011 then he'd be ineligible in GA

nice find. This is a very weird situation... you're talking about perhaps the best player in the country looking at not playing his senior year! Damn...

ETA: LHB says per Charles Flowers, Reuben is eligible. Yes, a guy on LHB knows Coach Flowers personally and asked him

Could ba a Jalston Fowler situation where he's a student coach his senior year and then enrolls at Bama in January. If he's not able to play then he'll have no chance of jumping Nkemdiche for #1 overall.

I don't know what to believe with this kid anymore:

2013 Georgia DB Still Has The Tide On Top

quote:

There was a lot of internet speculation earlier last week that Georgia had moved ahead of Alabama for 2013 DB Brandon Langley 6’1” 185 pounds from Kell HS (Marietta, GA). Langley admits to getting “a little caught up in the hype”, of a recent visit to the UGA campus, but “Alabama is still my leader.”

The Georgia defensive back said that the Tide staff really like “my size and speed as a player. They are recruiting me as a corner, but think I could play on special teams as well.” Right now, he has” Alabama, Georgia and Florida” as his top 3 schools, with Vandy, UT, Arkansas and Nebraska in the mix as well. Right now, he thinks he will make a decision this summer “right before my senior season starts.” Langley says his decision will be based on 2 key elements. “It will come down to the coaching staff and the school that can get me to where I need to be in 3-4 years. The NFL does not care if you play as a freshman. I want to go to the school that will do the best job of developing me long term.”

When asked what stand out about Alabama from a football standpoint, Langley said, “the fact that Coach Saban coaches the defensive backs himself. I mean at Alabama, I would have four DB coaches. Coach Saban, the GA and both Coach Pruitt and Coach Smart played DB in college, so I would be receiving a ton of coaching at Alabama.”

"The thing that puts Alabama on top for me is my relationship with the coaches and they have proven that they win championships.”

Well, he's supposed to be at UGA's spring game this weekend so I imagine they'll be back on top after that visit. Looks like he might commit to whoever he visits last so let's hope his last visit is to T-town.

Cooper Bateman on his SEC tour:

quote:

Salt Lake City (Utah) Cottonwood is home to one of the nation’s true elite quarterback prospects. Strong armed Cooper Bateman recently took an SEC tour and visited four heavyweight programs in the South.

Cooper Bateman kicked off his visit by traveling to LSU. From there, Bateman headed to Alabama, Auburn and Florida.
“All the trips were incredible,” Bateman said. “I really didn’t know what to expect coming from Utah but all four schools are incredible and I had a great time at each schools.

“I’m planning to make my decision in the summer, without taking official visits, so I used these unofficial visits to really see the campus, meet the coaches and see how the academics are as well. I want to be comfortable with all aspects of the program and I think I have a great feel for every school that I visited.”

LSU

“I spent two whole days at LSU and it was incredible,” Bateman said. “This was the one school I spent more than one day at and the thing that stood out was the fan support. They had 45,000 fans for their spring game and the stadium is insane there. I can only imagine what it would be like to play in an actual game there.

“They have a great coaching staff and my mom and I were really comfortable with them. We had dinner with Coach Miles and his family and it was really cool to get to know him on a personal level. I also got to sit in on the quarterback meetings and talked a lot with coach Kragthorpe and Studrawa and that was great as well.”

Alabama

“The history and tradition at Alabama really jumps out at you,” Bateman said. “No one can really match that and I loved the facilities and the campus. I had a pre-conceived idea of what the school would look like, kind of flat and not much there. Honestly, it’s the prettiest campus I’ve ever seen with trees everywhere and I know I would be comfortable living there.

“I sat down with Coach Saban and honestly, it was a little intimidating, not going to lie. He’s basically a living legend and meeting him in person was an honor for sure. My mom and I let him do most of the talking and he really didn’t talk much about football. He talked more about the academics there and how he expects his players to act.

“He demands respect and we saw that. Some players came up and they would take their hat off when they met my mom and that really impressed her. I spent the most time with Coach Nussmeier and I can’t say enough good things about him. I like the way he coaches the quarterbacks and how fired up he gets and how he carries himself. He lets the guys know when they mess up but also lets them know when they do the right thing and is just a real high energy and I like him a lot.”

Auburn

“Auburn was similar to Alabama in terms of the campus and general feel and vibe I got,” Bateman said. “I loved how nice the campus was, it’s a pure college town and just a beautiful place. When I was making the drive down there, it’s just a beautiful place with great facilities as well.

“Coach Loeffler is my main contact there and we have a good relationship. He’s new to the program and said he wants to bring in his guy and said he would enjoy working with me. He didn’t say if I was the top guy on his board or anything and I never asked. He did say there are some guys that he knows he can’t click with but he feels like he could definitely click with me and I felt the same way, I was very comfortable there.”

Florida

“The city of Gainesville is awesome,” Bateman said. “It’s definitely unique and nothing like the other schools. It’s a huge school with a huge campus but downtown Gainesville wasn’t too big, it’s just an awesome place.

“There are a lot of cool places to eat there, I had the best food I’ve ever had there. The weather was great and I met some great people. Coach Muschamp is a high energy guy and he’s open about that. We watched some highlights and it was fun to see how fired up he gets.

“It was also cool to meet up with Coach Pease again. He’s the new OC from Boise State and I actually took a visit there when they played TCU last year so I’m already comfortable with him. He’s an awesome guy and will do great things with the offense.”

Bateman has one more visit scheduled but said he could take two trips before it’s decision time.

“I’m going to Washington April 28 for Junior Day/Spring game,” Bateman said. “This is my first time visiting the school but my parents have been before and they love Seattle. In fact, were going to come up a day earlier and stay an extra day to visit the city.

“I have a lot of respect for Coach Sarkisian and all the success he has had developing quarterbacks. I don’t even know the total numbers of quarterbacks he has tutored that are now in the NFL but it’s a lot. Tosh Lupoi is my main recruiter and he’s awesome. He’s known as one of the best recruiters around and I can see why because he’s just an awesome guy.

“If I have time, I may take a visit to UCLA too. They just offered two of our players and they’re going down to visit with two of our coaches and I might go down with them. UCLA is actually my most recent offer and I heard the campus is nice and it’s a great academic school so I’m just going to play it by ear.”

As for a timeline of when he’ll make his decision, Bateman said he’s looking at sometime in June or July.

“Once I know, I won’t waste anyone’s time,” Bateman said. “I’m not ready to name any favorites though and don’t even want to say which visit I enjoyed the most. I think that would be disrespectful to all the schools recruiting me to single anyone out.

“Every school has their pros and cons and there is always going to be things you like and dislike. Once I’m down with my visits, I’ll sit down and sort things out and pick a school. There won’t be any press conferences, that’s just not me. I’ll call all the coaches who recruited me and I’m already dreading having to tell some of the schools I won’t be going there. Then I’ll call up the school I’m choosing and commit. It will be as simple as that but right now, I really don’t know, it’s going to be very tough.”

Alabama Recruiting Notebook (Scout):

quote:

Visitors
Numerous prospects on campus last week included Brendan Langley, four-star cornerback from Marietta-Kell, Ga., Alabama commitment Andy Dodd, offensive guard from Lindale-Pepperell, Ga., Alvin Kamara, four-star running back from Norcross, Ga., and Tre Williams, 2014 linebacker from Mobile-St. Paul’s, Ala. Kamara will return for the A-Day game after spending most of last week in Tuscaloosa.

quote:

A-Day
Expect a big group of visitors on campus for the A-Day game. Players to include Reuben Foster, Robert Nkemdiche, Antonio Conner, O.J. Howard, Derrick Griffin, Grant Hill and Cameron Toney. More in-depth look at visitors later this week.

quote:

Alabama makes significant move

Kendell Beckwith, who is one of the top overall recruits in the South, had a terrific visit to Tuscaloosa last week. Alabama and LSU are the top two schools. He is very high on the Tide after the visit. Alvin Kamara spent most of the week in Tuscaloosa and will return for A-Day. Keep an eye on this one.

quote:

AU commitment
Kamryn Melton, three-star cornerback and Auburn commitment from Dothan, Ala., plans to camp at Alabama this summer. He does not have an offer from Alabama at this time.

"Coach Saban told me for cornerbacks who are under 6-feet, he likes for them to run in the 4.4-40 range," Melton said. "He wants to see me improve my speed a little bit. I am working hard on my 40. I will compete in their three day camp this summer."

quote:

Another offensive lineman...

Three offensive linemen are already committed to Alabama with Grant Hill, Bradley Bozeman and Andy Dodd. Caleb Gulledge is one player we projected in the 2012 recruiting class to end up on the offensive line. The former Prattville star is expected to start his career on the OL at Alabama. He can play the tackle or guard position. Gulledge is very athletic for his size, has excellent strength and power.

quote:

Alabama continues to keep Prattville's Austin Golson on the radar. The FSU commitment grew up an AU fan. He plans to take a few visits in the summer and this fall including a trip to Tuscaloosa is expected.

Marlon Humphrey news:

quote:

Marlon Humphrey, cornerback from Hoover, Ala., had a big season in 2011 as a sophomore for the Bucs. He has collected a pair of SEC offers including the most recent coming last week.

“I haven’t been able to attend any spring practices or anything,” said Marlon Humphrey. “I am not sure if I will be able to attend any spring games. I have a track meet this Friday and Saturday at Mountain Brook.

“I just got back from a meet in Mobile. I placed first in the 110m hurdles and in the 300m hurdles. We placed second in the 4x100.”

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect is the son of former Alabama great Bobby Humphrey. The Tide is already on the offer sheet.

"Getting the offer from Alabama was pretty good," Humphrey said. "Alabama is a great place to be. I don’t have any favorites right now though. I will probably wait a while before I make a decision."

Humphrey’s second SEC offer is very recent.

“I was offered by Tennessee last week,” he said. “I talked to one of the coaches from Tennessee who used to coach at Alabama. I know Tennessee is a good school. It’s in the SEC. Coach Sal was a coach at Alabama, so he knows what he is doing."

Ryan Buchanon (Buccwild's MS QB) to visit Alabama:

quote:

As Ryan Buchanan sat in Nick Saban's office, he had to do a double take. He almost couldn't believe he was in Saban's office talking to a man he's watched and admired for years. Buchanan wasn't offered by Alabama today but he thinks an offer could be on the way as soon as Tide coaches see him throw during spring practice.

A visit with Alabama head coach Nick Saban is rare even among the country's top high school football talent. Ryan Buchanan is well aware of this and says his time with Saban is something he won't forget.

"I'm just sitting in there thinking 'wow, this is Nick Saban.' I've watched him coach for years and you almost can't believe he's right there in front of you. We talked about Alabama and he says he's impressed with my size and my maturity. He likes how I carry myself which is important as a quarterback."

Alabama did not extend an offer just yet because they want to see Buchanan throw during spring practice.

"That's Saban's system. He wants to see what I can do in a couple weeks at my high school so someone will come out there and check it out. I understand that, of course. I want to make sure I can impress them. I talked to coach Nussmeier about the offense too."

Speaking of that Alabama offense, Buchanan feels confident he could handle it. He sees some similarities in the Tide O and what he runs at his high school.

"When I watch Alabama on film, I see so much in common with the offense I run at my high school. I like that because I think I could come into Alabama with some experience that would help me."

Buchanan, of course, is from the state of Mississippi and has already been offered by both Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Many Rebels and Bulldogs fans wonder if he would leave the state for college. Here's what he says:

"I am going to look outside of Mississippi for sure. I want to check these other schools out. I just got offered by Arkansas and Auburn and Alabama will likely be in my top four. I am going to try to visit Florida soon too. I've been in contact with them trying to arrange that."

Still, he has two visits planned in-state coming up.

"I'll be at Mississippi State tomorrow (April 10th) and then I'll be at Ole Miss for their spring game coming up."

Scout update on Tre Williams:

quote:

Tre Williams, outside linebacker from Mobile-St. Paul’s, Ala., was one of the top prospects on Alabama’s campus for the Tide’s scrimmage. AN elite member of the class of 2014 talked of the unofficial visit.

“I just left Bama on Friday,” said Tre Williams. “I went up there for their scrimmage. The visit was fun. It was fun to be back in Tuscaloosa.

“They looked great. After all the good players they lost last year they still have a good team. I was watching both offensive and defensive players.”

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound rising junior has scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Kentucky.

“I talked to Nick Saban,” Williams said. “He was telling another coach to go suit me up. He said I have grown since the last time he saw me.

“Coach Saban is a cool dude. Everyone knows he means business. He is a cool dude though. He is a tough guy on the field.”

Alabama remains high on his list along with Auburn. Williams will visit the Tigers on Wednesday.

“They are still neck-and-neck,” Williams said. “I know a lot of people at Alabama. They tell me a lot of good stuff at Alabama. I am pretty close with the Auburn coaches.”

Riley Ferguson to visit for A-Day:

quote:

Riley Ferguson will make his first visit of the year on Tuesday and it will be to South Carolina. He talks Gamecocks, offers, future visits, and more here.

"I have 11 offers now. Clemson, LSU, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Maryland, Notre Dame, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, and Auburn are the schools that have offered me," said Riley Ferguson.
Alabama and Auburn are the most recent schools to add their name to his offer list and he is set to see another school in their conference on Tuesday.

It will be his first visit of the year and he is looking forward to it.

"I am going to South Carolina on Tuesday. Me and my mom will be going over there to visit them. I am ready to see the campus, get to the know the coaches better, and see how I feel there. It is important to me how I feel when I am on a campus, so I am looking forward to getting over there."

Columbia will likely not be the only college town Ferguson spends time in this week.

"I am planning to go to Alabama Saturday for their spring game too. I just want to get over there and see what it is like too."

These visits will be important to the 6-foot-3, 190 pound signal caller out of Matthews (NC) Butler. He is not far from starting to narrow down his list.

"I do not have any favorites right now because I have not been out much yet, but I will be cutting things down later this spring or in the summer. I will probably have a top five at that time."

He is not sure when he will commit. He is not ruling out an early decision.

"I could commit before the season starts," Ferguson said, "I really don't know. It is all about that feeling. When I have that feeling, I will be committing to someone."

Ferguson threw for 3,343 yards and 53 touchdowns in 2011.
