Vanderbilt is a great school and academically superior to UT and most other teams nationally so he did his job and sold a good school.

Not typically 5 star guys to Vandy. A lot of solid 4 stars though... but the UT degree doesn't have the same value as a Vandy degree. I will say they played that card rather well, particularly to the metro Atlanta area. But I also agree with the comment re: Franklin... how successful has Shoop been as a recruiter elsewhere?

Which is why they are traditionally have the top recruiting classes...right?

Neither does a degree to UGA, Bama, Auburn, Florida, South Carolina...

Vanderbilt and Penn State have been the only FBS programs where he has been a coordinator. Guess we will just have to see what he is able to do without Franklin.

Franklin and his staff did about as good of a job as can be done recruiting at Vandy:
2014 46
2013 26
2012 48
2011 52
2010 53
2009 71
2008 91
2007 67
2006 62
2005 88
2004 93
2003 78
2002 74
Total AVG 65.3
AVG pre-Franklin 75.2
AVG during Franklin 42
That 2014 class was much more highly ranked prior to Franklin poaching after leaving.
I'm not saying he won't be a great recruiter for you, simply that your statement that he's the "best Middle Tennessee recruiter" is a bit ridiculous unless you have some stats to back it up. Additionally, the "card" he had to play at Vandy has now changed... so how good is his pitch with what the Volunteers have to offer? Also, Tennessee isn't in the market to try and pull 42nd or even 24th ranked classes, you need top 15, top 10, top 5 in order to compete in the SEC Arms race. Butch has done just fine there thus far, but I just don't see how Shoop is this steroid shot in the arm of your recruiting efforts. On field results may dictate future recruiting prowess one way or the other.
But I digress... Vols Locks... all of them.

Again, was it Franklin pulling them in or Shoop? I don't recall anyone mentioning Shoop's name but I definitely remember Franklin's numerous times.

This is the way I actually see it shaking out, too.
Higgins - Clemson
Gibbs - UT
Stevens - UGA or LSU

WGAF about wide receivers as long as Azzanni is here. Josh Malone, Marquez North and Preston Williams have played a combined 6 years under him and barely have 1000 yards between them.

It's sad but true. We could sign Amari Cooper, Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald in the same class and we would struggle to get any of them 500 yards.
I would not allow my son to go to Tennessee if he was a big time receiver.

It sucks because UGA needed all three of those guys.

And fricking Da'Dick and his pasty, unathletic handlers son.
I'll be salty about that one til I die.
It's crazy how well UT has recruited receivers and how not well UGA has. We can get the number 2 or 3 guys all day but it seems like we're always missing that number one guy.

Im thinking
Higgins-Vols
Gibbs-Dawgs
Stevens-LSU
I really believe that Stevens will head back home to join the Tigers. As far as Higgins, I think Butch needs to maintain contact and get him around the team and on campus as much as possible, or Clemson can very easily still him right out of the shadow of Neyland. Here we go with Gibbs. Im hoping like all other Vol fans, that the family bond between him and Warrior is strong enough to pull him to Knoxville. But in the end, I think the Dawgs win out and keep him instate playing in Sanford come next fall. That's just my opinion.

Stevens will be back in Athens Sat. for the spring game, it seems like UGA has some momentum.

A.J. Green? Malcolm Mitchell? Marlon Brown? Even Mecole Hardman could be considered a top wr if he wanted to be there. Then there is still D-Rob out there. We have missed on a couple.
