My how times have changed... The following player lead his team to the Nattie that year...
--------------------------------
Suspended 1 games for the first DUI... 2 games for the second... Think what would happen now...
--------------------
A judge in Tuscaloosa, Ala., sentenced DAVID PALMER, a University of Alabama wide receiver, to two years probation in a drunken driving case yesterday and told him he would go to jail if arrested for driving under the influence during his probation.
The Sept. 6 drunken-driving arrest was Palmer's second in less than three months.
Palmer, 19, pleaded guilty after Tuscaloosa County District Judge GAY M. LAKE JR. refused to grant him youthful offender status. Palmer also pleaded guilty to a speeding charge.
Lake told Palmer that if he was arrested again on a charge of driving under the influence in the next two years, he would go to jail for 10 days. Palmer was also fined $250 and ordered to pay a $74 court fee in the D.U.I. case. He was fined $20 for speeding. (AP)

Only because how times have changed..(Not a dig, unless you took it as one). Today, if you got a DUI on the day of your suspension, you many never play again... It was the times back then...
Now we are going crazy over a kid getting a PI..
Different times...

I'd argue, it's not so much the charge, but the perceived profile of the athlete or how he can help the team. For instance, a violent offense conviction against Eric Smith didn't hurt him from playing, save for the Fla Atl game.

So you're gonna try to convince me that before his arrests David Palmer didn't have a rep?
OK.

Again. 20 years ago.
at a couple of you using this. There's plenty of Au players you could use for examples on punishment and arrests in the last 3 yrs. No need to try to bring up something that over half this board's posters were still in diapers for.

It's pretty damn obvious that student-athletes at AU are having a hard time staying on the right side of the law in these "different times."
Your athlete's are dang sure keeping the AU po-po hopping over there. Those cops haven't had a dull moment on the Plains lately.
