I like the idea of pods for scheduling and having no divisions like in basketball. Top two teams play for the SEC Championship. Tie breakers could be tricky and controversial though.

Keep in mind the Texas fans aren’t able to understand the concept of a three way tie.

I tend to agree. Make it clean and simple.

I love Bama annually, but the chance to play Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and Oklahoma every other year is appealing for this die-hard fan.

I cannot understand at all, why someone would choose the pods over the permanent opponents. The schedule that you get with pods can be duplicated by the permanent games option. Just choose those permanent games. A fixed set of pods is just one permanent games option.

Is it because you think they will create more playoff games? Well, you can have the same number of playoff games with the permanent game model, except you can guarantee that the best teams will participate. With fixed pods, one or more of the pods can be horseshite.

It's mindboggling to me. Anything you do with any division can be replicated with the permanent game model, except the possibility of getting inferior teams in the championship playoffs.

How do you fairly determine SECCG participants with pods? Will be a total mess imho.

I really don't see the point in keeping OU and Texas or Bear and State in the same pod, if pods are the decision.

I would move Texas down and Ole Miss up. They'll get their permanent rivalry anyway.

Arkansas, OU, Missouri, Ole Miss

LSU, Texas, TAMC, State

Just easier geographically.

Something similar to the NFL I would think.

With fixed pods, you have options:

o winner of each pod goes to 4 team playoff

o Given the possibility of an expanded national playoff, you might not want the extra semi-final playoff games, so you take two of the pod winners. Use SEC record. Head to head to break ties. If still tied could use common SEC opponent records, and finally national ranking. Personally, I would skip the common opponent and go straight to nat. ranking.

With permanent games it is a little more straight forward. You just take the teams with the best records and use the above tie breakers. The difference with the second option above is that in the above the 2nd best team could be in the same pod of one of the pod winners. The pod model above would exclude that team, but the permanent game model would not.

I guess one reason for preferring fixed pods over the permanent games model is sort of the same justification for all these bowl games. Since you are not guaranteeing the advancement of the best teams, you're spreading the idea of success among teams and their fans. Enhances interest overall. Don't know how I feel about that really.
