I'm on my phone so I can't exactly find links but every shred of evicted I've read on any credible site says that the act of asking for money is against the rules.
I mean, are u saying that newton or any dad or player can go on espn and say they asked a school for a million dollars and the NCAA can't do anything about it?????

No, it is still a soliciation at that point. Under the SEC bylaws, they appear to call for either a receipt or an agreement, which is beyond solicitation, which is an offer.
Agreement does not equal solicitation by one party.
BTW, I am not saying the NCAA or SEC will not eventually declare Cam ineligible if enough evidence comes to light, even if it is not according to the letter of the law (so to speak, concerning the bylaws).
However, this requires both actual evidence and the NCAA or SEC going a bit beyond what their own rules state.
Not saying this is not a possible outcome.
I just get annoyed when people continue to state over and over here that Cam is currently ineligible based on the current bylaws based on what is known.

Correct.
Except I am not even sure we are ok at this point.
I am just making a point regarding Cam's current eligibity and AU's decision to play him.

You are correct. It is based on an NCAA bylaw that has been posted here. However, it applies to the institution that was solicited. Not any and every institution the player may eventually chose.
Argue as you like the rightness, wrongness, etc. I am just stating how the rule reads and it is pretty straighforward.

I can see what you guys are hoping for...
You are basing your entire defense on the hope that the NCAA will make a clear distinction between the player and his immediate family NOT treat them as one and the same thing.
...good luck with that.
Albert Means was an 18 year old kid who was shopped around by his coach without his knowledge...a reasonable assertion given the facts. He was declared ineligible and had to apply to be reinstated at Memphis...in other words he wasn't immediately eligible because he was at another school.
Newton is a JUCO transfer who has been thru this before. He was shopped by DADDY. It is asserted that Cam had no knowledge of this...an assertion that the NCAA in my opinion will reject out of hand. Either way he will be ruled ineligible based on the rules of the NCAA and the SEC that have already been posted here.

Hahaha, this again? I went to bed with all the current Aubies knowing their fate was grim. I wake up, and there's a whole crop of new ones clinging to false hopes that the NCAA is ok with, "Oh, Cam didn't know I got $200,000 for his signature."
It doesn't work that way. The NCAA isn't like a court of law. You can't bullshite them with obvious lies.
If the rumors about Cecil are true, Cam will be ruled ineligible. There's no question about it.

Slight problem with the Means analogy...
A payment was shown to have been made.
This is not currently the case with Cam.
You will get no arguement from me that if a payment is PROVEN, then AU is fricked and Cam is ineligible (which will be the least of AU's worries in that case).

No, but they are going to need and require some evidence of wrongdoing by AU to act.
Like a payment or at least some evidence of one. Or even knowledge by Cam Cecil solicited money.
These things have not come to light at present.

Go to this link..www.auburneagle.com
they will find your theory very acceptable,
Over here we stayed steeped in reality and the reality we are steeped in says that poor Auburn cheated/bended/massages/or outright broke the rules to try to keep up with the proverbial Jones...AGAIN*
*We know Cam has "low standards of integrity" based on previous behavior..JUST LIKE AUBURN. Spin That!

Again....you are basing your whole defense on the NCAA even bothering to prove that "Cam knew".
It's his dad...they won't bother. They will START with the assumption that Cam knew because it's his dad.

Wait.....are you suggesting that if Cam (Cam's dad?) solicited 180k from MSU, but did not get it, and then signed with AU (AU NOT giving any money and none was solicited)...then, Cam would have been ineligible at MSU but he is fine at AU?

Yes. Assuming the following:
1. Cam had zero knowledge of any solicitation.
2. No money was provided by MSU.
Again, this is a literal interpretation of the NCAA bylaws. Maybe they need to be changed. Then again, any relative - aunt, uncle, cousin, brother, etc could try to get money from any university to supposedly influence a player signing with said university.
Think about it. Say (just a hypothetical example), Patrick Peterson's brother knows he likes LSU and may sign with them. So, he represents to LSU that he can help assure them he signs with LSU for say $20k because his opinion carries weight with PP. Say LSU says, hell no, frick you, we do not pay for players. Should PP therefore be ineligible to play football not only at LSU, but any school in the country?

Past Behavior Equals Future Performance Theory #1 :
Cam doesnt actually "steal" the laptop in Gainsville..he only "possessed" it.
How that turn out for Cam the Innocent?
and now... he doesnt "shop himself" to the highest bidder.....he was "shopped"
How do we think this will turn out?

wow......you think THAT is the same situation?
Cam's father was VERY involved with this process throughout. Cam was clear and vocal about that at the time. I even commented how strange it seemed DURING the recruitment itself (never imagining the money side). It is not the same as a brother trying to slide in and get something at all!
wow....just, wow

Same situation? No. I threw out a hypothetical that the people that actually wrote the rules likely considered.
Again, I am pointing out what the rules STATE. Interpretion into what the NCAA may or may not do is not a given in this situation like many act like it is (ie Cam is definitely and ineligible player right now).

You do realize...
that Cecil's solicitation doesn't automatically make Cam ineligible at AU right? He is ineligible at MSU due to it, and would be at AU if he knew about the solicitation or if he, his family/friends etc. received benefits from AU. But Cecil's solicitation from MSU alone doesn't do anything to his eligibility at AU. If any of that stuff comes up he's cooked.
The level of denial from Auburn fan is staggering. You guys are fricked, you know deep down that you're fricked, but you're still clinging to every shred you can get your hands on.

There's the fly in the ointment for Auburn fan...the chances that it went down this way are virtually nil.
