I was wrong about the defense. They are not elite. They play hard but have too many talent gaps to be elite.

Sure man. You seem stuck in last year and the year before teams.
I’ll just assume that you didn’t see the start of the FSU and Ky games.

I'll assume you're smart enough to understand when teams have a bye week or spend the entire summer gameplanning for what they feel is a big game and the difficulties that bring for a defense to figure out the new scheme or play and adjust to stop it.
Kentucky is a good team. We gave up 17. SC has a explosive offense. We gave up 18.
Again, you're a prisoner of the past. Even the great Kirby smart gave up 17 to Arkansas but you don't seem to think they have problems.
Miss State gave up 34 to South Carolina... that is double the points we did but you seem so fixated on being negative and projecting how you think on the team. That's you, not this team.

Nope, nobody clearly better. We've still got work to do, but we're certainly in the fight. Lot of wars coming up.

I’m not sold on UGA.
ECU is the only team we’ve played that isn’t better than every team they’ve played thus far imo
Oklahoma is a disaster for some reason this year

Dijon Lee has forgotten how to cover and becoming a liability. Gotta be a technique thing, last year he was solid.
Last year QBs were still throwing at ZB2 for some reason. He has shut down half of the field this season. DL5 is being targeted because there's an NFL ready corner on the other side of the field.

Apparently so is Tamu and that really shocks me. The stars seemed to have aligned for A&M to be one of the most talent rich programs in football and they still manage to not be able to handle being a contender

Uga has great TEs. They have very little at WR.
What hasn't been tested is their defense.
OU was about to make it 14-7 until Mateer fumbled. OU packed it in after that unforced error.
KR12 makes that play. Gotta kick Uga in the teeth early.

I will reserve my opinion until after the Geogia game. If we win or play them tough, we got a real shot. I am happy with my bet to win it all at 25 to 1. Made that bet based on my presumption that the SEC is weaker than normal and we would make the playoffs. That appears to be a blatantly wrong reason, since only 2 or 3 teams outside the SEC appear to be competitive with the top one third of the SEC. Florida stepping up really helped the SEC strength. Are they that good?

I mistakingly thought that you understood the meaning of start of the game. Apparently you do not as you referenced the final scores. Never change, guy, never change. You have a good day.

Teams are getting an absurdly high number of possessions vs the defense.
The offense is extremely explosive, but tends to go 3-and-out when they do get stopped, and also will end drives on incompletions (which also stop the clock).
When P-4 opponents get 14+ possessions, then they are going to make plays at some point. A crappy defensive holding penalty to keep a drive alive, Sellers escaping out of the pocket after being wrapped up and running for his life to pickup 2 yards on 4th down just to get to the sticks, etc…..
The ONLY two things that legitimately concern me are the injuries to Zulu and J Hill. The pass rush was LETHAL with Yhonzae and Zulu/Hill on the two Edges and Thompkins sliding inside to a very quick 3-tech who can push the pocket.
Sellets escapes the pocket almost exclusively to his left (opposite Yhonzae) bc Thompkins and a rotation of rotational players were rushing from that side.
#5 is obviously struggling to find (and play) the ball in the air in both Zone and man coverage. This is plainly obvious. He is a very talented player and was fantastic as a TF.
I personally think it’s a confidence issue at this pinky and he is panicking a bit when he knows the WR is being targeted deep down the friend. I think he will be fine personally, bc he is simply too talented not to, and Linquist has been phenomenal coaching the Secondary.
If it continues, then Chuck McDonald certainly deserves a chance outside. He’s very good.
The biggest thing for me, is that no one has consistently driven the football, especially by picking up 5-7 yards a carry consistently. The 55yd run was a rookie mistake by Thompkins who looked a little too hyped up to hit Sellers and ran up the the field on the zone read. It never happened again.
No one has SUSTAINED drives. It’s been a 1-off play where a DB (primarily #5) losing on a 1-on-1 deep ball.
Again, mistakes will happen and the opponent will make a play on occasion bc they all have playmakers and if given that many possessions then you are going to miss a tackle on a 3rd and 16 that leads to a 1st down, get out-jumped on a fade ball to a 6’6 WR, take the QB on a zone read instead of staying square to the LOS.
At the end of the day, if they tackle on that screen where Latham (would’ve been Zulu or Hill on that play) make the tackle on the 3rd and 16 when they had the screen snuffed out and allowed the guy to break 3 tackles and they scored in garbage time.
Bama D has given up 7, 15, 36, and 18, which is just under 20ppg.
They also have scored twice on their own.
If they hold opponents in that 17-24 point while forcing a couple timely turnovers, then they will not lose.
IMO, the time to be concerned is when they consistently allow 7 minutes 13 play drives for scores and allow teams to keep our offense on the bench. So far that has not been an issue.

Zulu is probably out until November. They've been hushed on Hill other than stating he should be back before Zulu.
If we can stay relatively healthy aside from that we should still be a playoff team. If something happens to Pierre though, who plays with an arm brace for a reason, we are up shite creek without a paddle. We don't have another one of those body types on the roster, so the rush is going to have to come from the interior and the blitz, the latter of which opens up a secondary.
Henry and Latham getting the off ball work that Hill was getting scares the daylights out of me

This - all of it. We desperately missed Hill/Zulu this game. Their speed (especially Hill) would have changed this game dramatically.
On a bright note, X. Griffin looks very, very quick (and can thump a mfer). Similar to Keelon, when this guy doesn’t have to think and just knows what’s up, he will be a force. He will make big plays for us this year.
ETA #13 on offense too, that kid is a frickin tank. We have a good problem at runningback. McClellan & Roydell Williams to what we have now is worlds apart. OL looking like a serious group instead of a circus helps of course.
