Lol. Sounds like the most unimposing name I've ever heard.

I don't understand. Certain LSU posters assured us Chavis would never leave LSU for A&M.

Never did I expect this. I'm shocked. Great hire. Chief is a beast. The LSU/aTm game will be some bad blood for years to come.

You mean the Clancy Pendergast who coached his defense from 9th to 84th in the three years that he was at Cal? Oh please do us all a favor and hire him.

I wonder if Chief knows the secret playbook?

Now that is a great question. Yes.

I'm surprised Chief left Miles.

Chief to Aggie is not a lateral move. It's a serious downgrade for several reasons. First, Aggie scores fast causing the Aggie defense to be on the field WAY TOO LONG. That's going to be a serious issue for the Chavis bend don't break approach that works so well with LSU's ball control offense. The 3rd and Chavis effect will be insane. Chief's stats will get CRUSHED in 2015, while LSU will be getting back almost an entire defense and like 17 of the top 22 for the number one ranked defense in the SEC with a guy like Clancy Pendergrast to run it.
Second Aggie cupboards are not anywhere near LSU in terms of talent or depth. It will take at LEAST two years to have them to SEC levels. Which is a problem because...
Sumlin, despite all the PR, has been a very mediocre coach. He has recruited well for sure, but he has NEVER demonstrated that he can win consistently. Chavis might be surprised to learn what happens to Sumlin a few years from now.
Chavis has a well-deserved reputation for shutting down spread offenses. Few have ever done it better. But you might want to note his mediocrity against BIG PHYSICAL TEAMS, and remember that Aggie plays Bama, LSU and Arkansas every year, arguably 3 of the most half dozen physical teams in football.
Chavis let his ego overcome him and that's going to sink in at some point. I wish him well, because he's a good man and an Old School Man's Man, and we don't have enough of those. He should be able to mend that Aggie defense if he has enough time, but he's 58 and Sumlin's status is kind of up in the air, so it's far from an easy task. He has to REBUILD. He hasn't done that since his early days at Tennessee.

Didn't read. Stole your coach. Gig 'em Aggies.

Just saw Sumlin told Nfl teams he is staying at the college level.
What NFL team is desperate enough to hire that ducking train wreck?

Chief is a VFL and did us a solid with this move. We just got a New Year's present in the form of a top CB who has been on our wishlist because of it.
Thanks Chief and TAMU!

Well said pimp. It all sounds like sour grapes now, and I'll be the first to admit I wish Chavis was still a tiger, but he couldn't be a worse fit for Sumlin's offense. I was in denial about this happening for just that reason. LSU fans complained about the defense last year, but what you actually saw was a Chavis defense that isn't given 10 mins to rest between every series. Either way I thank Chief for all he's done for LSU, and hope he proves me wrong in every game but the last one of the season.
