If you win the sec championship outright that means on paper your team is good enough to make a run to at least the elite 8 possibly fighting for 1 or 2 seed, so yes that means it holds value. An outright sec championship holds way more weight than making it to the sweet 16.

ETA: if your team won the SEC outright this year, for example, Bama this year, and didn’t make it to or past the elite 8 would you still consider it a good season? That’s why I say it holds more weight than those positions in the NCAA tournament. Winning the sec outright sets your expectations for March madness.

Winning a first round game and winning the SEC are about the same for me. The latter is more difficult and impressive, but it just means so little in basketball. For example, I couldn't tell you who won any other non-SEC conference, but I know Princeton beat Arizona.

Both of these mean nothing. You either win it all, or it needs to be building your program toward winning it all.

Getting past the first weekend is a big accomplishment.

I consider the NCAA tournament a new season with a clean slate.

SEC tournament is cool and all, but not on par with a refit season title or even close to the second weekend of attempting to win the ACTUAL title. I think the Ivy, maybe others, don’t even have a conference tournament. Imo, if you play a round robin season there is no reason for a conference tournament.

The SEC tournament is cool but really only carries any weight if you needed the auto-bid to get into the NCAA tournament (like us in 2008).

This. After LSU nearly beat Bama in the conference tourney championship two years ago and still got shafted with an 8 seed, it became worthless to me.

They should have been a 6 seed after that run

I would be at a school that love to be cast a Champions in life than to win a Championship at football, baseball, and basketball.

An actual SEC title probably only trumps a first round appearance to me. Give me a Round of 32 appearance over an SEC Chanpionship

The frick is this? 1st and 2nd round appearances mean frick all
