Charlie Strong is a defensive coach who hasn't held an opponent to less than 45 points this year. If Texas continues on similar trending for this year in terms of losses and horrible d, then Strong getting fired is completely reasonable.

Not even close, but he better pick up the recruiting.

No you can't churn though coaches like that.

frick, UF is still paying his LAST contract buyout which means if they fire him they will be paying two buyouts for one man.

Because you've been wanting him gone for 2 years now. He's never had the support previous coaches have had. How old is that fire Charlie thread on shaggy?

And...? The audacity some of you LSU fans have is mind boggling. Charlie Strong's best season hasn't even reached Les Miles' worst season and yet y'all kick him out the door. Yet, we're the "bad guys" because we aren't content with 5 and 6 win seasons.

Strong wasn't our top pick and his performance is showing. What school would want some of these results?

2014, 6-7
BYU L 41-7
Kansas State L 23-0
TCU L 48-10
Arkansas L 31-7

2015, 5-7
Notre Dame L 38-3
TCU L 50-7
Iowa State L 24-0 (following beating Kansas State and Oklahoma).Iowa State also won only 3 games that year
West Virginia L 38-20

2016, 2-2
Cal L 50-43 (let's not forget they had a TD called back to the 1yd line and lost to San Diego State)
Oklahoma State L 49-31

He's a defensive coach producing horrible, abysmal defenses. Do you really think giving up these results is acceptable? It's pushing three years.

We pay a premium amount ( Charlie Strong - #6 highest paid coach) and expect a premium product.

If you could get Herman, yes. If not, hang on until next year. McElwain won't take UF where they want to go.

Hell no. Ole Butterteeth looks to be a great coach. But you need a qb to win in the SEC. That was Muschamps problem at UF too. Florida fans were spoiled by Tebow.

But JM needs to add an elite recruiter to his staff. He needs to go hire D. Craig as soon as the regular season ends. If not him then Trooper Taylor. If go Trooper over Craig. Hell add both.

The guy needs 1 or 2 more years. You don't fire a coach after 2 years. The only way you could justify firing this year is if they don't make a bowl game which is highly unlikely since they have already won 4 games.

I think a new coach needs a minimum of 3 years. That can be lengthened if they inherit a real mess. Ie- scholarship limitations/reductions, a coach that "mailed it in" his last few yrs. multitude of transfers and dismissals upon his arrival, etc. Much like what's going on at Texas. Coach boom left the offensive cupboard pretty barren. To fire McElwain now is a prime example of a spoiled and entitled fan base. Fla has only been relevant since the early 90's. No offense.

It's going to take time to get players that can actually run an offense. He has a good background and was a successful HC at a lesser level. He will be fine.

The people who screwed up are Georgia (for hiring someone with no HC experience) and SC (Cause Muschamp... LOL)

Crazy talk. McElwain is an excellent coach. Give him a couple years and he'll be upsetting FSU and winning the East again which will swing the recruiting momentum back towards UF. He's a good enough coach to do that.

If he's having a difficult time landing the big names in Florida he'll shake up the staff and get some better closers. He's not dumb. Seems like he is actually self-aware and level-headed unlike every other coach in the East.

Give him time.

A lot of our "fans" are spoiled and most of them have acted like complete tards since the Tennessee game.

There's a part of me that can't believe that people would actually consider it. Now I don't feel like I'm going crazy.

Honestly I think it is very hard to find top quality assistants. And when you come from a major program that's had a high level of success, all those guys bounce to bigger better jobs. If he can create what he has learned under Saban in a 60% or better capacity, he will be a great coach. If not, he's just another Muschamp.

Recruiting in Florida will be easy once he gets it rolling, he is great at developing qb's and i think will have good success in the future.

I am in the camp that he should have never been hired at UF in the first place. McElwain had 3 years as a coach and Foley decides to hire him at UF? Foley made the same mistake with Zook and Muschamp. Hiring guys that did not have the required years of experience. Is McElwain proven as a Head Coach? Nope. UF should not be on the job training, especially for football.

Let me ask an honest question. If Butterteeth was sitting in your living room with another SEC head coach trying to recruit you. Who would you decide to follow? I can only think of 1 or 2 coaches in the SEC I would put behind McElwain. He's going to get beat out in 90% of the cases. Which is why Urban Meyer, Jimbo, Richt, Saban, Malzahn, Harbaugh, etc., are beating him in his own backyard. Kids that grew up Gators are going elsewhere. And spare me the excuse that he's only had 2 years. Richt, Harbaugh and even Muschamp didn't take long to get recruits excited. McElwain is a Gomer Pyle type that is not very motivating in my opinion.

How many people can faithfully say that McElwain is a winning head coach? No one can because he doesn't have a track record. Now, how about Urban Meyer, Harbaugh, Saban, Richt? There is no disputing these guys are going to win wherever they go. Why would UF choose a guy that MIGHT BE successful??? At this point, McElwain is a crap shoot. Of course, you give him time but we all are praying he's the one.

Too soon to fire him. He's got to have time to fully implement his system with his players.

I agree with you about Strong, but I was under the impression that a good portion of your fan base wanted to give him more time. Do you think most of the Texas fans/boosters want him gone?

I think that he is a good coach. He should get at least three more years. His team only has one loss.
