Alabama.
Any season that doesn’t end in a Natty is a disappointment, and I’d still have to hear “Row Tahd” from sidewalk Bama fans every day.
The misery of the Cam Newton year and the Kick Six year would be too much to endure.

The answer to that depends on whether or not you’re in prison.

If we're looking at strictly football, it has to be UT. Based on their tradition, expectations resources etc. They've underachieved and/or disappointed greatly since the turn of the century. Its started with 2001 SEC Championship game. The entire 2005 season. The end of Fulmer... Then the coaching carousel and the dumper fires that have ensued. What was the last fun, overachieving year for UT? Lane's 1 year? Maybe 2016. Its been rough.
Vandy doesn't have any expectations, but they've had program highs under Franklin, and Mason has gone bowling. Ole Miss and Arkansas have gone to Sugar and Cotton Bowls. State was ranked #1.

What's with the Vandy mentions? They've been to 9 bowls games in their history. 6 of them came after 2000. Admittedly making bowls games is a much easier accomplishment than back in the day but still they've always been shite, but they've been less shite since the millennium.

There is a case to be made for UGA. And at least 1 article written about it.
Sucking is pretty easy even if you used to be good. Apathy eventually sets in.
Being good, perhaps very good, and having your heart ripped out and held, still beating, in front of your face, multiple times....that sux. Trust me!

I know you're poking fun at UT but they obviously would not qualify for this
UK and Vandy are shoeins, then take a west bottom dweller like arkansas or ole miss for the 3rd spot.
I'd say UTK is no. 1 if you are talking fan expectations and what they receive.

I mean I know we've sucked but that's not terrible
Just football. Bowl games aren't impressive. Everyone makes a bowl these days.

Didn't Arky make it to the Sugar Bowl at least?

Easily the vols. They have high expectations and just find new ways to suck even more.

as a state fan the last two decades have been great to us outside of a couple of blown national titles. we dont belong on this list or even mentioned foe it

Based on what?
For starters, I was talking about football only and only black and white results. If you're talking "relative to expectations" then UT makes a strong case, but I was just going with the facts.
Tennessee had a fantastic 2001 including an epic win over UF in teh swamp and was a game away from being in the national title game. They have a smattering of wins over uga, uf, and bama and have won the east multiple times to go along wiht multiple 10 win seasons.
ole miss and arkansas have 1 division win among them in 2006. with just a few exceptions these 2 schools were 2 of the bottom 3 in the west just about yearly. Each had a brief blip of success. Arkansas with mcfadden and petrino and ole miss with freeze's bought players that landed them on probation.
Tennessee is in shambles right now but they were still a pretty good bordering on really good team for the first half of this date range. Ole miss and arkansas have generally been average to bad teams the entirety of the date range with a couple exceptions.

I wouldn’t put SC in this at all especially if we’re goibg all sports. We’ve had a few really good years in football, baseball titles, and a few final fours in men’s and women’s b-ball.
It has to be the Mississippi schools and Tennessee. No titles at all that I can think of.

Tennessee. Every other school is used to losing, but if we're going with 2000 - that puts Tennessee 2 years removed from a National Championship.
To what they are now.

I'm going to argue UGA. No team has come closer, more times, with more heartbreaking finishes.
Of course, it is better than being a UGA fan in the 90s!
