What year was that?
I found it...1959. I was just a kid but remember hearing about it.

For LSU if this isn't IT,this is in the top 5. The 1994 Auburn game after Auburn had tied it up after being down 23-9 on two interception returns, somehow, someway LSU regrouped and kicked a fg to go up 26-23 and held Auburn.A tad over a minute left and Auburn is out of timeouts and on third down Lynn Amedee has Howard throw again and you know the rest.

Kudos to Auburn, but that was just stupid on LSU's part.

Ed Scissum screen pass

That was the worst one I ever witnessed in person.

I was wondering how many posts until this was mentioned.

The answer was 10.

I witnessed it in person too.

There are no apartment complexes by the stadium. Jordan-Hare is pretty much dead in the center of campus.

The time that damn Les Miles told Xavier Carter to bring a kickoff out of the end zone and kneel down on the 1 yard line against UF still pisses me off.

the first thing that popped into my mind was anything to do with the jumbo package. obviously, i'm not the only one who has a total disgust for that particular set.

but then i thought about another situation that to thjis day pisses me off. suan alexander got in the game against lsu because dennis riddle got banged up. he ran for nearly 300 yards. was right back on the bench the next week.

a whole lot of folks hold coach stallings in extremely high esteem. i aint one of em. to me this situation was proly the second worst decision he made during his time at bama.

I'd like to nominate a play that worked. The result shouldn't justify the idiocy, though.

LSU vs. Auburn 2007. Tigers trail and are trying to score late to win (D-Byrd game). Tigers on third and short run the ball up the middle and are shy leaving fourth and inches. LSU lines up in their short yardage formation with a offensive lineman lined up in the interior of the line but off of the LOS. As far as I know, LSU has never been stopped on this short yardage play as the QB goes right behind the lineman who is off the LOS and always gets the yardage. What does Crowton do? Fake quarterback sweep halfback throwback. The pass is terrible and, if not for a great play by Keiland Williams (and maybe a decent spot ), LSU would have lost that game. That call is always stupid, but at least justifiable on third down. On fourth down it was a total WTF!

Screen pass with less than 2 minutes to go up by 2 on the road against AU in '97

The play was snapped at 51 seconds and the ball was recovered by Auburn with 43 seconds left with just a few yards to go to get to field goal range.

Seems like this is a common answer for many Bama fans. It wasn't a good playcall, but why is this singled out as one of the worst? It isn't as if the play called for the receiver to fumble it.

Apparently though, it does strike a cord with many fans. I remember hearing about multiple death threats for the guy who fumbled.

Single worst offensive play-call:
Screen pass with less than 2 minutes to go up by 2 on the road against AU in '97. Pass was fumbled and AU recovered. Kicked FG. Won game. Mike DuBose was not wearing a headset (b/c Bear didn't, I presume) and had no clue that play was even being called. I was there. It sucked. AU students in the apartment complex by the stadium were shooting bottle rockets and throwing bear bottles into the crowd of Bama fans leaving the stadium. It was not a fun night.

Single worst defensive play-call:
4th & 19 at home against UT in 2006 (I believe...I've tried desperately to block it from my mind). We rushed 3 and dropped 8. We'd killed them bringing pressure all day. Clausen had an eternity to throw. UT converted. Won the game.

Single worst offensive playcaller:
Mike Shula. '03 - '07. Philosophy seemed to be "if at first you don't succeed, hand it to Darby up the middle two more times".

Agree with all of this except it was 2003 with UT. I was at that game and it was one of the worst games I have ever sat through.

Well, the #1 MAIN reason is because it led to a loss to our RIVAL (I know, I know...not this shite again)...but Auburn had done nothing all day. The defense was playing well, and the amount of time left (0:51) made running it on third down, and (if necessary) punting the good call. As soon as Kitchens dropped back, I was immediately on my feet yelling "WHAT THE FRICK ARE YOU DOING!?!?"...The rest of the game after that was a non stop stream of obscenities and "oh my god's"...

I'm sure this happened with some of the 'tards in our fanbase, but I never begrudged Scissum for the fumble whatsoever. It was 1000% on the coaches for calling a damn pass. You could tell Ed was torn up about fumbling it, and damn near killed himself on the ensuing kickoff, trying to take it all the way to make up for it.

That call is the shite cherry on the top of the shite career of Mike Dubose.

Ok I didn't look up any of that when I wrote it. It's not that bad considering he was a shitty backup from a mediocre Auburn team that played one game 12 years ago.
