The question would be at what point do you do away with non-conference games. If you have a 20 team conference, do you need to outside of conference? Maybe 1 tune up game?

ETA: Could have 4, 5 team pods, play the 4 in your pod every year, and rotate the other 3 pods every year. 9 conference game and would play everyone every 3 years.

If 20 teams happens then they should go to 10 games.

That would be great, but I doubt it happens. Especially since there are still teams who would have annual non-conference rivalries, like Georgia-Georgia Tech, Oklahoma-Oklahoma State (maybe), North Carolina-Duke, or VT-UVA. They would have just one free non-conference slot per year.

Wouldn't it be 2?

I thought A&M and VT would have more fun doing drills at halftime and giving each other buzzcuts.

10 conf games. one rival played every year. play 9 teams one year, the other nine the next. play every other team, home and away, every 4 years.

UNC has the right rivals. I would rather come with UVA than VT but VT isn't bad.

I'd boot OU out of that grouping.

OU is a blue blood who is usually good which makes the games fun but we really don't have much of a rivalry w/them. A bit over half of our games were b/c we were in the Big 12 South for 16 years.

While it's true that we've played VT far less than OU (4 vs 31) the senior military college connection is a nice foundation for a rivalry. If we're going to be given a forced rivalry I'd like it to be one w/a commonality other than "we both hate" the school in Austin.

Of course that would all hinge on VT actually wanting to play us too. They'd probably prefer South Carolina since they are closer.

I also wouldn't be opposed to teams having an uneven amount of rivals. Maybe something where you can have as many as 4 but need at least 2? Just ensure that all the major rivalries are saved and work back from there. Once the conference is at 20 I'm not sure that trying to force it to where you play every school in 4 years is even worth it.

I just don't see UVA ending up in the SEC instead of VT.

you think anyone cares about some far fetched idea about a 20 team conference?

Agreed. Going on 15 years of near-constant Conference realignment speculation has gotten really old. They'll figure it out when/if it happens.

Vandy, Duke, Kansas, Wake Forest, BC, Tulane, SMU etc etc need to form a basketball/baseball conference. Hell, just join the Big East.
