With NIL and TP, do your expectations change when evaluating teams/coaches?

IMO, there is no such thing as building a team in college football anymore. I believe it's win now, period. When LSU agreed to pay Kiffin 13M+ a year and give him a 40M+ NIL budget, there's no excuses not to win now because half of the 60+ new players on the team now, won't be there next year.
In the old days, it was about building a roster and developing a good team. These days players only care about themselves and getting paid. When a teenage kid can sit across from Nick Saban - the greatest college football coach ever - and only want to talk about money, that tells you all you need to know about state of college football.
This season 97 of the 138 FBS schools will be starting a transfer QB! IMO, it's all about winning now!

If you are in the top teams of of NIL (say at least top 10 area) it will tell you if the coach knows what he is doing or not. A Saban run will never happen again when you have a lot more teams paying the players like that. Georgia was about the only team matching Bama on that in Sabans later years when Smart brought it there at that Saban level before NIL existed as it does now.

Cignetti has set the bar pretty high for coaches. In one year he took a perennial loser to the playoffs. In year two he won it all.
That’s why a coach in Kiffin’s position probably has a fairly short time window to at least play for the NC, if not win it. For $50 M roster and $27 M coaching staff, you have the right to expect better than 10-2 and some bowl.

I do think that college football will be taking a step back toward team building though. Player retention will become an economic advantage even without any modifications to the transfer portal. And I think it’s just a matter of time before transfer rules become more restrictive.

So back when players were being paid thousands of dollars no other schools could keep up with Bama, but now that they're being paid millions, everyone can? Hmmm. That's some interesting, um, logic.

Bama and Georgia were the schools the highly recruited players were showing off new fancy vehicles and flashing cash right after signing.

I agree we need a more restrictive TP, but I just don't see it happening if the NCAA is involved. The current set up is lucrative for the coaches, players and agents, so I just don't see how you can put more restrictions when the you've already let the cat out of the bag.
I totally agree with you, but I think that's just wishful thinking because it's so out of control now that trying to slow it down is not happening anytime soon.
