What the Alabama players did is no better or worse than Ohio State players trading items they owned for tattoos. Both are things that eyes wouldn't even be batted over nowadays. Give us both back our wins (although we lost less than you).

Call bullshite. Vandy was 49-47 in the 50's. The best season they had was 8 wins.

The completely arbitrary and disproportionate win-vacation punishment that has been handed to Bama over the years will always chap my arse. I don’t think a single one of those games was the result of what has always been considered the most egregious form of cheating: program-managed pay for play. Really- you’re going to take away wins when the school proactively reported that a handful of kids cheated the system with the textbooks deal, all while creating no competitive advantage for the school? frick you NCAA.
First, I think vacating games is total BS. But it is also my understanding that Saban/Alabama preferred this to losing a few scholarships a year. The logic being that it would not mean anything in the future.
The NCAA sucks and has screwed may schools with inconsistent penalties.

I made this point for years and it seems to fall on deaf ears. The best team winning % is .733. Which record wise equals about 8.75 Wins and 3.25 losses in a given season (not counting a bowl game).
Yet, when one of the blue blood teams dare to have a 8-4 or 9-3 record in a given year, fans want to run the coach out of town on rails. But those records meet the historical average or exceed it.
Conclusion: The expectations today by some fans are completely ridiculous and not in any way based on reality.
If Saban were to have back to back 9-3 seasons, Bama fans would be howling. Yet, he would still be well over Bama’s historical winning % of .732 (in fact he would still be marginally improving it).

“1. Ohio State (953-331-53) .733
2. Alabama (953-335-43) .732
3. Michigan (989-353-36) .731
4. Notre Dame (938-335-42) .729
5. Boise State (482-180-2) .727
6. Oklahoma (934-338-53) .725
7. Texas (936-390-33) .701
8. USC (867-363-54) .696
9. Penn State (920-406-42) .688
10. Nebraska (912-417-40) .681”

Yeah Princeton and Yale has the most national championships. It was before our time obviously so we don't think about it. But they did win them.
I don't care if was 10 teams or however many playing in the early years in the whole country if you was the best you was the national champ. Those schools was dominant during their time. That's why I thought they would have a high win percentage.
