Not Shaq, not Russell.

Closest competition to Wilt are Kareem and Hakeem.

Biggest misunderstanding about Wilt is people think that he was tall and before his time.

Wilt was a freak of nature.

Shaq more athletic than Wilt?

Wilt competed for Kansas in track and field.
High jump, long jump, quarter mile, shot put.
Played professional volleyball longer than he played pro basketball.
Drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ran a 4.40 40 yard dash.
Beat Jim Brown in a match race.
Arnold S said Wilt is the strongest person he's ever worked out with.

Wilt freakish athleticism

Kareem was better than Wilt. I was also a huge Laker fan and fan of Wilt. You cannot rewrite history, Wilt left a LOT of legacy on the court in the Finals and playoffs period.

He could have been dominate he just wasn't often when a title was on the line. He was a great player just left a lot of 'ships on the table.

True, but those teams would probably be unhappy if they made it to the Finals--lol.

Kinda like Houston in the playoffs with Harden.

I'm not comparing Shaq with Wilt---but Shaq did not fade in the Finals.

Let’s try this one more time. Russell won 11 championships in 13 years. Again, 11 titles in 13 years. It is not even debatable that the late 60’s Lakers teams had more talent than the late 60’s Celtics teams. But Russell always won. And, to top it off, he was player coach for those teams. Wilt has all his scoring titles, rebounding titles and his one assist title. And Russell has his championship titles. Greatest talent of his generation or the greatest winner of his generation (and ever for that matter). You can decide for yourself what you value more.

Jabbar had Magic Johnson, arguably the best all around player ever, and James Worthy. In his rookie season Johnson took over center for an injured Jabbar in the finals and won an NBA title, scored 42 points and 19 rebounds.

Chamberlain had Baylor and an over rated Jerry West.

I’ll give one more example of why Russell was so great. Saw an interview (many years ago). They asked him if he played much in the preseason. He said he didn’t play much. But he emphasized how important he viewed preseason games, because he would study his teammates and see what it was they did best. He talked about how Don Nelson liked to begin on the left side of the court and go right for his little running hook. He mentioned a few other things. He then would adjust his game to best suit his teammates. He explained he might not score as much, but it would give them the best chance to win. It was never about anything other than winning.

Chamberlain won 2 nba titles Shaq won 4, but had Kobe Bryant. The Lakers won 2 more with Kobe after he ran off Shaq.

Jerry West was not over rated. Yes Kareem had great talent around him. Wilt was a monster. He just did not have the heart to dominate the game when it mattered most--athletically he should have been almost unstoppable.

Kareem, Shaq both wanted to win and left in on the court.
Wilt could have been the most dominate center ever IF he had the heart to dominate.

All true however when the most important games were on the line Wilt failed to take the game over.

If you graduated from LSU in 1988 you aren’t old enough to gave seen those players in the 1960’s so you really don’t have a clue.

That’s interesting. You can’t watch videos and read things?? I guess I can’t have an opinion on World War II since I wasn’t alive. Some of the dumb arse things you people write is amazing.

I have watched all these players and like i said was a HUGE Lakers fan. Wilt was great but not dominate when it mattered most. My opinion is the LA lifestyle made Wilt soft--just too much fun to be had--can't really blame him but certainly he should have more titles.

Russell didn't average but about 6 points a game, but he was the best defender in the paint I've ever seen. Also, a great shot blocker. Had it down to a science. I saw him not just block but block it to a teammate who would be off to the races for a layup at the other end. All my friends in elementary school were big Wilt and sixers fans. I was the only Celtic fan. Didn't matter 'cause I got the last laugh every year except one. That year the Sexers won the championship they only lost 13 games. I think it still might be an NBA record.

No. He averaged about 15 pts a game and around 22 rebounds. God knows how many blocked shots, because they didn’t keep that back then.
