Russell seemed to care more about championships than Wilt.

Both are top tier so it really comes down to championships at that point.

People complained that Wilt scored too much, so the next year he led the league in assists.
Yes, as a center Wilt led the league in assists.
They changed the rules to stop Wilt (widened the lane), they let people mug Wilt because they felt he was so big and strong that it wasn't fair.

Wilt is the GOAT, Russell was a glorified forward.

Keep telling yourself that moron. In 69 and 70, Wilt had Elgin Baylor and Jerry West (two of the best 25 players in NBA history). The Celtics did have Havlicek, but the other key players were Don Nelson, Tom Sanders and Bailey Howell. You seriously want to argue Russell had more talent?? Seriously?? I’m thinking maybe you’re the unfortunate result of one of Wilt’s tens of thousands of women he banged.

Is this really important enough that you have to insult a guy that much for having an opinion?

Am I stupid?? Stop embarrassing yourself. It’s not complicated. When Russell and Chamberlain matched up, Russell always won. Can you not understand that?? Do you not realize the bottom line is winning, not how many points you score??

Russell was a defensive specialist who was also, a great rebounder, but he only averaged around 15 points a game. He was one of the smartest players, too. He perfected the shot block where he'd just stop the ball where he blocked it instead of slapping it away...got him a lot of extra rebounds that way. On top of all that, he averaged nearly 5 assists a game!
Neither he nor Wilt could shoot free throws worth a crap though.
BOTTOM LINE:
Celtics (Russell) won about 60% of the time

Chamberlain averaged about 30 ppg against Russell and averaged about 14

Chamberlain averaged 28 rpg while Russell averaged 23 on Wilt.
** Unbelievable Stat: Wilt Chamberlain averaged playing 47 minutes per game!. The guy played the ENTIRE game of nearly every game he played in the NBA!!

and he never fouled out of a game.

averaged 50 points a game for a season.
led the league in assists one season.

Some of his records will never be challenged.

Wilt would dominate any era. People that automatically discredit players of the past are idiots.

Stats are stats. But the most important stat, the only stat that really matters, is Bill Russell won 11 championships in 13 years. A perfect example was given above, when Wilt, upset that he was told he scored too much, then led the league in assists the next year. A perfect example of how supremely talented Wilt was. But it’s very doubtful it helped his team win more. That was all Russell cared about. Winning. He consistently altered his game to help his teammates be better. It’s why he is the greatest winner in the history of professional sports. I won’t argue for a second that Wilt is maybe the most talented player in NBA history. If you value stats take Wilt, if you value winning, it’s pretty obvious.

Bingo.

I hear people questioning if Bird,Jordan,Magic could play today.
These people have the question backwards.

And the people who act like players are all faster and bigger today.

Really? bigger and faster than Bo Jackson, H Walker, OJ, Earl Campbell etc?

The thought that all of the greatest athletes in the history of the world were all born in the last 30 years is beyond illogical.

Feel free to check my math, but 11 out of 13 is a good bit better than 60%.

Not to mention NBA defense was played much more physically in the 80s.

I'm certainly not saying that either player is better than the other. I will say that Russell was a much better fit in Red Auerbach's brand of basketball than Wilt would have been. Auerbach, like Bill Belichick, was one of the GOATs of his professional sport, and he knew the type of player he wanted.
Auerbach once said,"you can teach nearly anybody to shoot a basketball, if they put in enough time and work, BUT you can't teach a player to be an elite defensive player. The determination and effort it takes to excel defensively must come from within the player himself." Like Belichick (and maybe Saban), Red had the "key" to building championship teams, and Russell was not only a contributor, but a beneficiary of Auerbach's genius.

No argument. But give extra credit to Russell for also being the coach of two championship teams, not just the best player.
