re: Will the rant ever admit the Kiffin hire was a stroke of genius?

10 points is a poor offensive performance.
There's more to the story than just points.
Bama only had 3 possessions that resulted in 3-and-outs all game long. They threw an interception in the end zone and missed two field goals. Throw in penalties that killed a couple more good drives and you've got a recipe for turning what was really a good offensive performance into something that looks bad in the box score.
On the other hand, Arky and LSU until the last drive were bad. Really, really bad.

Meh
Amari Cooper is a freak. He is the offense and it's year 1. Your O hasn't been great on the road either. You're winning just as many games as you normally do.
He's a good OC, but he's still a horrible human and I still believe the decision will come back to bite you. Year 2 without Amari can change my mind though if you're still killing it.
Gary fricking Crowton did well in year 1 before teams figured out his offense.

Seriously, Adam Griffith has cost us a whole 2-3 pts a game by missing FGs from inside 40 yards.

I watched most of the games. They throw a bubble screen to Cooper once or twice every possession depending on the length of the drive. They did it 3 times in the first quarter against Mississippi State but State played zone instead of man-to-man. One bubble screen was loss yardage, one was no gain and the other was a modest gain like 5 yards.

No, no we don't.
We do sometimes quick snap and just throw it out to him if Blake recognizes the coverage is playing back, but we run MAYBE 1-2 bubble screens a game.
I can remember 1 against MSU, and it was down inside the 25 and got blown up for no gain or a loss of 1 or 2. Blake threw 2-3 quick routes when they lined up off in coverage (1 was on 3rd and short on the 4th quarter drive to DeAndrew White).
And besides, those plays make up maybe 5% of our total pass plays and probably 3% of our total pass yards.
We run the "line the WR in the backfield" or "line the WR in the squeezed slot" and motion him around on PA and throw it to him in the flat play (see Cooper 1st play at UT, A. Stewart big play vs MSU) much more often than we do bubble screens.

Kiffin is no genius but he obviously ain't a program killer or poison either.
My point exactly - hiring him was NOT a "stroke of genius" as the OP claimed.

I'm pretty sure his offense hasn't been held to 7 points in any games this year. So, if you want to talk about OCs that aren't that bright.....

I said it was a good hire from the beginning. That wasn't hard to see at all.

He did lose to Ole Miss. So there's that.

There's nothing 'genius' about it. Kiffin is an above average OC but a poor head coach.

Everyone keeps harping on how many points his offense has scored, as if that is where the genius lay. Saban knew he needed to shake things up within his program. Nearly everyone here called it desperation. His staff now includes 3 of the best, if not THE best, recruiters in the country. The Kiffin hire was the most talked about hire of the off-season. It kept Bama in the spotlight. The Sugar Bowl loss was forgotten. The Kick 6 a fluky relic of a bygone regime. The fact that he has turned Sims into a legit QB and has Bama on the verge of a play-off berth is gravy.
to Nick. I will never doubt him again.
If he loses to Auburn, he can pack his shite, though.

Worst Bama offense since 2009 fwiw. Thankfully it's not nearly as good as your 2013 offense because LSU would have been blown out if it was.
This is LSUs worst offense that I can remember

It's too soon to declare it a success given Alabama expectations, so lets lay all the possible endings to Alabama's seasons and you tell me how far down the list we can go before we are no longer happy with Kiffin.
1. Alabama wins title
2. Alabama loses title game
3. Alabama loses title game badly
4. Alabama loses semifinal
5. Alabama loses semifinal badly
6. Alabama loses to Georgia in SECCG
7. Alabama loses to Missouri in SECCG
8. Alabama loses to Auburn and does not go to SECCG
I'm guessing you're not willing to go below #4 and still call it a success. so let's wait n see mkay?

Who gives a frick about yards gained? #66 in redzone offense is a far more important stat than yards/game
The fact that your defense is ranked in the top-5ish, you have at worst a top-5 punt game, and your scoring offense is still relatively low.. tells me all I need to know. It might just be an execution thing.. but the points aren't there.

I thought it was a bad mistake but now a brilliant move by N S, once again a good move. I hate to admit it but N S is a great coach but an a@@hole of a human.

Dude, you are counting chickens that haven't hatched and after the big Bulldog crushes all the eggs said chickens will be dead.
