You think he's gonna want Dabo as his successor?

He has said multiple times that he would not ride the program down. He also said that as soon as he feels he cant do it anymore he will retire.

He has also said that he fears not being a part of a team and has no idea what he would do if not coaching lol.

I think he would be an AD or some sort of governing official of college athletics. If that spot were presented and he was feeling unsure that might be a push for him. Thats several years away though.

Bear retired and practically died the next day.

I believe it was almost 6 months to the day. When asked what would he do after football, he said something to the effect, I won't live long after football.

Have no idea....I know that he and Dabo are good friends and there is a lot of mutual respect there.

My biggest fear is that the good ol boy booster network that has been sidelined since Saban got there re-emerges and tries to run things their way. That was the real problem after Bryant retired. If they just go out and get the best possible coach that is a fit for the program, Bama will be fine. If not you could have another Perkins, Curry, Dubose type hire and then yeah...Bama could revert to mediocrity real quick.

Are we just going to pretend that Bama wasn't average af outside of 1 season between Bear and Saban?

In the 23 years after Bryant and before Saban Alabama finished ranked in the Top 10 seven times. Almost 1/3 of the seasons during this "average" span Alabama finished ranked as one of the 10 best teams in the country.

LSU has finished ranked in the Top 10 eight times in the last 23 years, FYI. Thats from 1996-2018.

Alabama : 1983-2006 (23 years)
- 1 national title
- 3 SEC titles
- 3 Top 5 finishes
- 7 Top 10 finishes
- 12 Top 15 finishes
- 14 Top 25 finishes
- 18 bowl games

LSU : 1997-2018 (23 years)
- 2 national titles
- 4 SEC titles
- 4 Top 5 finishes
- 8 Top 10 finishes
- 12 Top 15 finishes
- 17 Top 25 finishes
- 21 bowl games

We consider Alabama's 23 year period between Bear and Saban "average" and yet LSU's last 23 years (the best 23 years of their history, no?) is really similar.
