You can't really compare MSU of the past with Dan Mullen teams. Ole Miss being down will be great for State. Ed O at LSU may help as well. Sunlin definately helps being at A&M. We will still inexplicably let a few of the top recruits go to Ole Miss because no matter how bad they may be, some people have deep rooted loyalties.
It used to be if you were bad in this conference you were Mississippi State bad but we have started to string together some lasting success we hadn't seen in a long time. Now we are a 6-8 win type team. You may turn around in a couple years and we are a consistent 9-10 win team

Dak becoming a NFL favorite + Ole Miss probation is about to do wonders for State's program. If Mullen can keep his recruiting rankings in the 10-15 range then watchout. He's a vastly underrated coach and does more with less than just about anyone.

No. OM has always been a program that was down and MSU was never that much better. Both schools will never be at the top consistently

Let's all hope, right? The SEC is a better conference when State is a 10 win program.

MSU won't change because of the OM situation. Bulldog fans, whether they believe it or not, do not have the desire/commitment required to be a consistent 9-10 win program. In the position that we're in, with no natural advantages, we would have to go over and above the commitment level of an LSU or Bama or Auburn, and we just don't have that mindset.
I'm not criticizing. The fact that we don't define ourselves by football Ws & Ls is one of the things I love about State

You think OM being on probation is going to get State 5 more wins?
Holy delusion Batman.

couple more players can end up being the difference for a couple of wins
Especially if one of them can kick a fg.

Ole Miss may have always been a program with down years but they haven't always been a program facing crippling sanctions that are going to scare away the other in state prospects. State has also improved their ability to keep a lot of top prospects in state since Mullen has been at state which is something that has not always been the case. OM being on major probation will only help State. Probably 1-2 more top MS prospects per year, which is a big deal.

Yes, but they must strike while iron is sizzling hot.

The problem is other schools like Bama, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, etc. will draw those players away from Mississippi

OM didn't gain any success or get into any trouble because of MS players. The state just doesn't turn out program elevating talent in numbers

No, but Dan Mullen has done a damn good job. He's improved that program tremendously, because they were about as bad as you can be before he got there.
