quote:I understand where the OP was coming from. This just sounds like a serious issue for the LSU System. I'm sure something will be done to curb the severe cuts that are proposed in the attached article. This is after all a write-up from the LSU System President to address how a 35-40% reduction in state financing would affect the System's operations. The implications are severe and if they actually come to fruition it would most definetly affect accreditation. Cuts like this would be catastrophic to the law school/medical & research, etc.
LSU's AD gives to the university. Not always the case with universities. Sure, it's terrible for the school but the OP was taking the athletics angle.
I've got a close friend with two kids at LSU, one in medical school, the other a freshman with hopes of med school too. That's the only reason why I've even paid attention to the thread/article.

ha ha dumbass OP doesn't realize that LSU athletics is self sustaining and actually donates money back to the school.
The cuts are going to suck, but LSU has been cut before and it will still be here. I was a student, when the first round of budget cuts came under Jindal, all the instructors were pissy because they were going to lose their jobs and some classes were going to be cut, but did they really need 2 sections of Literature and Jazz?

Bobby Jindal is an arse.
Seems like he is trying to shake up a flawed system and all the sycophants who depended on that system are upset.
The answer here is REALLY obvious: tuition deregulation.

Lsu will light a mountain of money on fire before the football program suffers budgetary issues.

been there done that.
The state passed the LAGRAD Act back a few years ago. It allows the schools to raise tuition without the need of legislature approval. The problem is that alot of Louisiana students have TOPS so the state is paying. The fees is where LSU makes its money and out of state students from the horrible state of Texas. What we need is to close 3colleges (here is looking ar SUNO, GSU, SU) and merge ULM and LaTech but that is racist and politcal suicide.

The football team will save them. I don't know how many other SEC teams do this but the football program gives a few million bucks a year to academia. The few liberal educators who hate Jindal want a political issue and maybe they could be called out for squandering financially.
