Year 3 means 3 years of saban recruits right now... is there really a difference that 4 will make? Or do you talk yourself into that before yo go to bed at night?

Arkansas should seriously consider joining the Big 12 when they realign again. The future looks terrible for Arkansas in the SEC. Seriously, Arkansas would have numerous conference championships by now if they played in the Big 12.

The same could be said for LSU. Wouldn't LSU have more conference championships in the Big 12? Playing the likes of Kansas, K. State, Iowa State, Colorado, Missouri, OSU, T. Tech Baylor, A & M, in conference games has no appeal to me and many other Hog fans whatsoever. The day Arkansas joins the Big 12 is the day I find another SEC team to support (maybe LSU). One SEC Championship in 10 years means more than 5 in the Big 12 during the same time period.

What's your beef with Arkansas, vol017? You've had something like that to say in every Arkansas-related thread. How do you know all of these things? Do you live in Arkansas? Do you follow the program more closely than Hog fans? I mean, you seem like quite the football genius/expert. I just want to know how you know it all. Are you the new WRT?

I have absolutely nothing against Arkansas. I was simply answering the question that was posed in this thread. Yes, in a previous thread(s) I felt that Tebow should have been first team b/c Mallett didn't do crap in big games. No, I don't think Arkansas has a chance to win the SEC next year..but of course they will win the SEC at some point, you would think. This is an SEC rant. If you want sugar coated answers that you would like to hear, hit up a hog board.

Yes, you're right. It is the SEC Rant. So spread the hate/shite-talking around man! I'm just getting tired of reading the same old ridiculous "Arkansas should join the big 12... you guys will never win the SEC... your coach is sleazy jackass... Mallett doesn't talk like a good ol' southern boy so he must be a total douche strung out on meth." Most of the time, I just ignore it. But I was high last night, and apparently couldn't keep myself from typing. I'm actually kind of surprised my questions to you made any sense.

But hey, good luck with your bowl game. My old roommate is a VT fan, and he's getting really annoying with all the "ACC is just as good, if not better than the media-hyped SEC." I don't know if all VT fans buy into that, but the ones that do are actually very annoying. Just a heads up.

Now I've NEVER said that... high, drunk, and/or sober.

Same to you

But I'm not worried about VT fans. It's a game that I'm not really expecting a good outcome from anyway. UT is horrible in the Ga dome, and the offense VT runs will give us fits all night. Not to mention Beamer should have a field day with our special teams, or lack there of. Oh well, we shall see.

No they don't. First, they better hope Mallett stays. Secondly, they better get a defense if they want an SEC championship. Petrino's "offensive minded" style may have worked in the Big East, but it won't in the SEC. His defenses sucked at Louisville as well...

All I heard when Petrino got here was that his schemes wouldn't work in the SEC. Now that his offense is one of the best in the SEC and he is winning games, tards have to say things like "he only cares about offense".

That's just BS. Petrino knows more than anyone that defenses are important to winning championships. But his style is to fix the offense first, then the defense; because that is where his skill lies.

He only gets this reputation because of how his offense overshadows his defense. It's kind of like how he gets a reputation as a pass happy coach, when in fact he is a strong proponent of power running. His Louisville defenses were pretty decent for a midmajor team before he left.

I predict that Arkansas will win an SEC Championship in the next 40 years.

Seems reasonable.

And you know what, I stand corrected. I looked it up and his defenses were in the top 40 for his last 3 years at Louisiville. I just remember in big games his secondary giving up HUGE plays. He needs to get a top-notch defensive coordinator and let him have full control. In a conference where 7 of the teams are ranked in the top 30 in the country in total defense, you HAVE to have a defense to win the SEC and Arkansas went from 72nd to 90th in the country since last year. He gets a decent defense, Arkansas will be hell on wheels. If not, he'll be another Hal Mumme...

It's funny b/c I always said if UK got Woody from Vandy to coach the defense at UK, I would not want to play them. Arkansas right now reminds of those UK Mumme teams. Urban Meyer let Strong call the shots...Petrino needs someone similar.

Petrino had a pretty legit offense this year, but Mallett and company didn't show up against the best defenses in the league, Alabama in particular. Arkansas will have to change some things in order to compete with the elite teams in the league. Saying that though, if Mallett comes back to Arkansas, they should have a real shot of winning the West next year. They play Alabama, who loses a lot of its defense, and LSU, who loses a lot of seniors as well, at home so 2010 will probably be as good a chance as Arkansas will have in the next few years.
