Whoever does PT at 0500, remind me not to go there.

The main thing though was that I didn't like the lack of control over my career. I wanted to be able to decide where I was going to be stationed next, and what my next job was

What I preach to my lieutenants is that once you knock out your KD job as a CPT, you are largely in control of your career. Whether that's a broadening assignment, functional area, or doing the conventional thing where you end up an XO/S3 down the road. They have to stay engaged with their branch manager and not be afraid to tell them what they want to do and why they think they'll be a good fit for it. Or if they're looking for something else (BOP, FA), know the requirements and apply. Don't count on the Army to take care of you (my words to my guys) in that regard if you haven't made the effort.

Went through Army OCS back in 2009. Branched Military Intelligence and have deployed twice (12 months as a LT, 7 months as a CPT). I've been stationed in Arizona, Hawaii, and Tennessee for extended periods. I've absolutely loved the opportunities the Army has given me. Me and the wife love traveling and moving around and the Army has given us a lot of chances to do that. Benefits are exceptional.

Like with any job, there are frustrations and annoyances but the good has far outweighed the bad for me. Plus, if you hate your job, you're only going to be in it for a year or two before you move on to the next one.

Due the downsizing, OCS classes have reduced significantly since I went through. We had a new class starting every three weeks. And it is exponentially more difficult to get in. Broad brush, they want STEM degrees from well known institutions. In 2009, they would take you without a degree as long as you had all four appendages. armyocs.com is a great resource.

For the most part, troops are battle hardened and families are war weary.

After putting just my base W2 in TT, I had a refund of 5,200. I put my wife's in and we now owe over 600.

It's about speed and explosion. Two rather important pieces of being a collegiate football player.

re: USAA New Officer Loan

I used it when I commissioned. I only needed about 12.5k at the time so I just took the rest and put it right back towards the loan.

I've known many an officer who used the loan to play the stock market. Not recommending it, but if you're knowledgeable and comfortable with that, it may give you a nice little return.

I route my DirecTV through mine and love being able to play and watch a game simultaneously.

BA is Jekyl and Hyde for me. Last night he made some decisions/throws that made me think "This guy is the answer" (long 3rd down conversion to Hatcher, tuck and run, TD to Wilson, deep out to Morgan) and then he made decisions/throws that have me shaking my head (Henry multiple times).

Also, does it seem like to anyone else that throughout the year, 60% of roll-outs end up in throwaways? Understanding that we don't have the truly gifted outside guys.
I've got to be honest, I thought that was awful.

Unless his dad is on the other side. Then he'd turn into a baby back bitch.

Not enough chest.

Was my neighbor when he coached at ULM. Great guy and great coach. Hope he does well.

re: How is the Arkansas run defense?

Georgia liked our run defense. Alabama and MS State didn't.
