I know this is totally irrelevant but it erks me so much when on ESPN they say the SEC conference.. Its like saying the Southeastern Conference Conference.

With that said the Conference USA Conference makes no sense.

again nothing against you and its not really important just a pet peeve of mine.

You're right... that does sound stupid. I edited.

24 Overall Conference Titles, 7 Conference Tournament Titles

A 20,000 seat PALACE and 16 Straight Years of Top 10 Attendance Averages

Nolan and Eddie: 650-245, 2nd most successful team of the 90's

So, my question is: WTF has happened?!?!?!?!?!?!

Clearly, Arkansas has the facilities, fanbase, and tradition that is only trumped by Kentucky (As far as the SEC goes). Now the NCAA is "inquiring" about the possibility of "handlers" being funneled money during the recruiting process.

Does this mean we can't even win by cheating?

Thoughts?

i'm surprised the NCAA goes after anyone in basketball. most of the big name schools have to pay an entrance fee of sorts for high caliber players to the AAU coach/handler or someone on his behalf (if there is an AAU coach for the player). i'm not sure how money gets to the recruit or his family, but it is a safe bet that it does.

IMO this whole AAU business is potentially threatening for all colleges nowadays. Everyone recruits these guys, and it sounds like you have to go through the coaches to recruit them.

yes, and the AAU guys are accountable to no one. if a HS coach were to try and do this (believe me, some of them do), he would be fired.

football and the other sports are a different story, as you know

My fellow Razorback fans, everything I am hearing is that Pel is back next year. Ostrum is staying on board too.

Do not expect it to get better next year. The best bet at this point is for Pel or whoever the coach is, to recruit the 2010 class, which is a pretty good b-ball class.

Does not look good for AR. The basketball program may actually be very similar to when the football program had Jack Crowe as a head coach.

There is a rumor that Nolan may be hired as an advisor to the program.

bad memories of LSU playing against that guy. he could simply ignite the net by staring at it.

Yes, and I hope it happens quickly. I hate it when LSU loses to anybody, of course, and it's especially hard when we lose to Arkansas. However, I REALLY pull for Arkansas and want them to do well.

Nolan was on Bo's show a few weeks ago prior to the UGA game. He talked about an hour of his experiences and how he came into his coaching prowess with a predominately Hispanic HS program.

It was interesting that Bo asked what his role has been with the program...Paraphrasing here "I can only do what I'm asked to do"...It sounded as if Nolan wants to be a part of the program in this advisor capacity. Hopefully Pel will take him up on it...

I'm also surprised Evans hasn't been a bigger piece of the puzzle...I thought he was a pretty good HC...but also heard he's not allowed too

No offense, 'cause I have some Hog fans that are very respected, but those stats were largely piled up in your old SWC days with games against the likes of Rice, SMU, TCU, and Baylor.

I don't think UArk recognized the giant step up in competition that came from joining the SEC.

Hope you don't get busted, but if so, that certainly won't help. Problem is not unlike football, where for UArk to be great, you need other schools to backslide, which just doesn't seem to happen much any more. UF has gotten good, that douche Pearl has woken UThug up, and LSU should continue to be pretty good with TJ as coach.

Yeah...less than 3 years in we won NC and followed it up with a return to the NC game the following year...but you are probably right.

Arky just lost their mojo like UK has done recently, they will be back IMO even though it might take awhile.

You won most of those titles in the weak SWC. Arky was the only bb school in that conference.Since ya'll joined SEC,LSU has more championships than ya'll,and I don't expect it to change.

'95 was a fluke with the UCLA kid rolling the ball on to court thinking that would end game. Ya'll brought in JC players before joining conference that SEC rules would not have allowed in school.
You also had Nolan playing the race card and intimidating SEC refs.

Arkansas should recover. They made a Final Four in 1978 in the old SWC.Won a NC in the SEC plus two more Final Fours (one in the SWC,other following title season).

IMO its wrong for schools to just "assume" the good ole days will come back and then stay there. Kentucky basketball,Alabama football,LSU baseball won't ever have their zenith periods repeated.

Arkansas could be hurt somewhat by Memphis.Whereas Memphis does recruit nationally,Memphis is a hotbed and if I'm not mistaken,Nolan got some good boys from West Memphis and Memphis.

I think Kentucky can and will turn it around before Ark though.
