Because of this crap

The SEC plays a hard schedule, the rest of the conference do not. 24 teams maximizes SEC teams getting in and will probably return SEC to perpetual National Champs. Steel sharpens steel, and SEC teams will be stronger against teams playing their powder puff schedules. There is a reason ND loses every year in the playoffs.

Yes, the road for the SEC to win a NC is rough but there has to be a better solution than a watered down 24 team playoff.

Should have just capped it at 15. Let the top 15 duke it out.

Umm..you're going the wrong way.

We need a 4 (maybe 6 max) team playoff, then teams like this won't get in.

SEC could get left out this year in that scenario. People put way too much emphasis on a perfect record. Baseball and Basketball prove this.

I couldn't possibly give less of a frick abotu the SEC. I care abotu my team.

If you play well enough and win enough games (against an SEC schedule) you'll make it in. Somehow we've played over 130 years without letting 24 teams enter the participation trophy invitational and CFB was just fine.

who has mentioned a perfect record? Nobody these days is going undefeated.

Uh, those sports play like triple the amount of games as cfb and aren't contact sports so not sure what those have to do with anything.

If they double it again, SC might have a slim chance to get in...

Injuries and being worn down physically put the sec at a disadvantage against teams that play soft schedules and get to rest starters in 4th quarters all year

And most of the "crowned" national champs are complete bullshite. There is a reason every other sport on the planet has proper playoffs to crown their champ. CFB needed to catch up.

That argument can go both ways. Soft schedules, create soft players. There is a lot to be said about a player that has been punched in the mouth a few times and gets back up.

Rankings are a meaningless way to determine strength of schedule these days and at this point of the season. A team could be 6-1 and ranked in the top 10 and proceed to lose 4 of their last 5 ending up at 7-5.

End of year rankings are the best way to determine strength of schedule but that can only be done in hindsight.

We beat the hell out of each other. No one will have any players to compete by the end. 24 or 36? Hell, it won't matter. The soft schedules means fewer injuries. Just the way it is.

Looks like this would be a good year to start the 24 team playoff. Six or seven SEC teams would probably be in the playoffs.

Poor take. I'm okay with each conference having their best team being represented. It's why we went from 4 to 12. FSU kept crying like bitches. But multiple bids for a conference should only be considered based of SOS.

It should have only expanded to 8. These 1st round home games are stupid af. What needed to happen was B10 vs SEC annually like they do in basketball but we do it against the ACC in that sport. Or quit all these cupcake games and add ACC and B12 teams to your schedule. Make head to head matter.

Indiana milked a soft schedule to a national title last year.

NIL and the portal ruined depth; gone are the days of plugging in the backup and moving along without missing a beat.

Miami plays 1 ranked team all year. UCLA plays 1 ranked team all year. ND plays 2 ranked teams all year, etc..... they are all ranked in the top 10 and will automatically be in the playoffs this year. OM is playing their 5th ranked team this year with at least one more on their schedule. OM has like 12 players injured right now and it will only get worse. Tell me how this is fair!!

(1) life is rarely fair
(2) injuries are part of the game
(3) just win
