Because he lost to a team that lost to a team that will lose to a team in 2 weeks that wont lose a game this year

The question began with "... the perception of Alabama being so fluid from week to week" (or something to that effect).

Alabama has been one of the most consistently successful programs in the country during Saban's tenure; this fact, combined with the media's collective amnesia regarding Bama's recent history of losing an SEC game during the regular season and still finding ways to win championships, probably aggravated him.

He's also using it to motivate the players.

He does it once or twice a season. He did it last year after the Arkansas game, and I think the LSU game.
