re: Why Texas A&M and Texas have 1 Nati in 55 years despite some top recruiting classes

Texas ranks 103rd of 136 FBS teams in terms of returning production. So yes, I think they have a depleted roster. Luckily for y'all, I didn't realize how depleted Georgia and Ohio St are. They rank right next at 101st and 105th. Ole Miss ranks lowest of Top 25 teams at 113th, and Oregon at 109th.

There is some truth in this. I also think a lot of Texas kids peak earlier due to the insane amount of money these high schools spend on training and development here in the larger districts. You end up with recruits that are more developed but not as much room to develop compared to some of the more raw talent in other areas.
I have no proof at all it’s just a theory. I would be interested to find out how Texas recruits compared to other states in their first year or two in college compared to upperclassman because I wonder if that’s part of the problem.
We have some great players that come out of the state every year, but I do think that there’s some issues with some being overrated because there’s so much emphasis on recruiting here
One of Mack’ biggest faults was his lack of recruiting outside the state and one of the things I love about Sark because he recruits nationally.
I am sure this will piss some folks off. I have zero stats to prove any of this and I am too lazy to do the work but I think the op brings up an interesting topic. Flame away

Are you sure? Jaylen Waddle, Jalen Hurts, Jalen Milroe, Jam Miller, Greg McElroy, A'Shawn Robinson, Deionte Thompson, Jase McClellon, just some I recall in the Saban era.

No. I said it was just a baseless theory. The only thing I know for sure is that, while we are typically 1st or 2nd in kids drafted, per capita we are always behind states like Georgia and Louisiana. I don’t know the reason for this. I’m sure there are smarter people that can drop in and explain why this always seems to be the case.

Cause winning is hard. Talent is only one part of the equation. Player development and learning to win in the biggest games is a cultivated craft. The head coach is a huge difference maker, and in the SEC, Iron sharpens iron.

How does any Texas school miss on Brees

I also think the same over rating of recruits the services did above is the same type of thinking of putting Texas at #1 in Coach's poll despite going 0-3 vs Ohio St and Georgia. Why in the heck would you put Texas above them when they literally lost to them 3 times? And now have a depleted roster.
quote:Well, I don’t know how to break this to you, but we’re actually in the 2020s currently
Same thing in 2010s. Texas preseason Top 5 or 10, only to finish 6-6
And Texas has finished at or above their preseason rankings in each of the last 3 seasons

I don't see any "Engineering" in this thread. Is Arithmetic called Engineering these days?

Why in the hell would preseason rankings have Texas above Georgia when they literally lost to them 2x last year, and Texas lost more players than Georgia
It's the Manning effect.
No, it is not logical or reasonable, but sports fans are twice shy and won't bet against a Manning.
If Texas new QB was anybody besides a Manning, we would not be picked #1.

You think Texas doesn't have a depleted roster? They lost 12 to the draft and probably some additional finish their 4 or 5 years. If that isn't depleted, then I don't know what would be.
Depends on how you define “depleted.” We may have fewer players with big game experience, but we are not depleted in terms of potential. Texas did pretty well last year, after losing 11 players to the NFL draft the year prior.
We have been recruiting well, and I like that Sark has done a lot of recruiting in the Deep South and elsewhere of big talented guys, focused on bolstering our offensive and defensive lines over the long term.
In the NIL era, there may be less time to slowly develop players. Recruiting guys who are a little more patient, with good attitudes, who buy into the coaches’ vision is super important. Sark seems to be doing a good job with team culture, and controlling the locker room. This is not easy in big money Tinseltown Austin.
That said, I’m sure our 2025 team will need time to gel, with new players learning their new roles. I would rather not start out with a number 1 preseason Coaches Poll rating. Playing Ohio State on national TV is not a good warm up game. But if Sark can keep the team motivated and we do not have too many key injuries, we should have the talent to compete at year end.

We don’t count the bought championship of 2005

I have bad news for this board. If Texas does indeed beat Ohio State - the national Texas mania will combust like wildfire. The media will put on Texas knee pads and assume the position. Arch Manning will be the poster boy for College Football.
You're melting because Texas is over-ranked now? Boy are you in for it.

Please name an unbought championship in the 21st century.
Only thing worse is the bought "best" recruiting class of all-time, only to go 8&4. Now that's putting in work.

Go easy on poor Sarge. He’s still in shambles over Scheffler’s career taking off while no aggie has ever won a major in the pga (and never will)
Well, that and he doesn’t even have any sort of aggie championship in the past 85+ years to defend as being legitimate

I saw a screenshot from Mike Roach over on Surlyhorns about 3 years ago where he openly talked about how he had confirmed that under the Herman regime, "texsa was up to it's old tricks of working their contacts in the scouting industry to boost the recruit profiles of kids in exchange for commitments"
I thought to myself, why would you intentionally over-rate a kid's recruiting profile to get him to come play for you? That's self-sabotage.
But when you consider it's all about showy optics and appearances down there, it made immediate sense to me.

What are you yammering about? It was posted over on Surly because you retards over there post screenshots of insider information publicly all the time. I'm surprised they haven't been sued yet.
You think I just made that up?
It was a screenshot from Mike Roach, like I said. Did I make his name up too?
