Why are they waiting til September 26? I thought the whole idea of conference only was to provide more open dates and wiggle room in case of positive tests?

this. they're just delaying having to cancel the entire season. I dont want them to, but I would be surprised if it ultimately doesn't happen.

Allows the NFL to get up and running first before we start.

Yep. Called this bullshite out in another thread. It’s just as easy for them to drag people along as it is to be honest and cancel it. The shitty thing is there are people who’s livelihoods depend on CFB and the should have been given an explicit notice that they need to make some business plans/changes. No need to feed them false hope.

Sankey lost my respect. Dude should have grown a pair and cancelled or rescheduled for winter/spring when there is a better pandemic prognosis. The deaths count will be too high in September for it to be politically possible to have a kickoff. The dumbasses in charge know that.

Probably because they are just delaying the inevitable. Although the official word is to see how the NFL handles its first couple of weeks and to deal with initial “virus spread” once the student body returns to campus in the next few weeks.

They literally scheduled it around the time experts are predicting the worst point of the pandemic.
They are postponing cancellation until it is politically convenient.
Absolutely shitty leadership.
