Lol the irony of an alabama fan asking this. Alabama is buoyed in the rankings all the time for eye test and brand recognition - how could this possibly happen to anyone else?!

To answer your question: Georgia has beaten everyone since week 1 by ~30 points and barely breaking a sweat.

Bama looked like it was shitting razorblades trying to beat a bad Florida, lsu, auburn, etc.

but why should Georgia get a pass if they lose?

Even though I don't think they should (Being your Conference Champ should be a requirement imo), This is a topic that would be better served being brought up by absolutely any other fanbase besides Gumps.

At least UGA would have won their division.

Something two of Saban's National Championship Bama teams couldn't even accomplish.

2018 UGA is the only one that should have.

And 2007 UGA should have played for the NC.

And nobody wanted a piece of 200...whatever...UGA at the end of the year. That team was firing on all cylinders and playing better than anyone in the nation at the time.

The Citrus Bowl win proved that.

This is the same tired line repeated by Dawg fans year after year.

Not the point though.

A Bama fan asking why a team that doesn't win it's conference championship should get the benefit of the doubt, or a mulligan if you will...

I disagree on this one, but LSU did get lucky not having to face this team.

So you’re getting a lot of shite simply for being an Alabama fan, but I actually think this is a quality post, and the points you raise are discussion-worthy (and always have been).

If this scenario involved flipping the names Georgia and Alabama, you’d have a lot more serious replies extolling that Alabama shouldn’t get in, I think.

And if Georgia wins tomorrow, I’ll root for them to win out and represent the conference well. But I don’t know the best answer to your question either.

He's getting a lot of shite not because he doesn't have a good point. Most of us agree with his point.

He's getting a lot of shite because he's a Gump making an argument that Bama fans have been extolling is not a valid argument since 2011.

Who deserves to be in? Georgia has gained a ton of credit, not just for winning, but how they've won - in dominating fashion. Does that still matter if they lose Saturday?

So are saying Bama didn't deserve to be there in '17?

They obviously didn't even make the SECCG game.

That's not even the question posed. But since you brought it up, that year the championship was not a playoff game as only one participant had a shot at the title. Or think of it this way, LSU had to win to get a shot - Bama did not.

I think the argument can be made that the loser Saturday doesn't deserve to be in the playoff over other 1-loss or undefeated conference champs.

1. Is there an undefeated conference champion? Who is that? Cincinnati?

2. Which undefeated conference champion would be left out if Georgia loses and goes to the CFP?

quote:

Georgia's SOS (5) is actually a spot behind Michigan, and only 12 spots ahead of Okie State. The Pokes, Wolverines, and Bearcats all played at least 1 quality opponent in November, while Georgia was beating up on 4-6 Charleston Southern and 3-9 Georgia Tech. In fact, the Dawgs haven't played a team with a winning record since the middle of October.

So, in your world a one loss team with a tougher schedule should be left out for a one loss team with a weaker schedule?

quote:

IF (a huuuge if) Alabama were to do the unthinkable and upset the mighty Dawgs, while Oklahoma State beats Baylor, Cincy beats Houston, and Michigan handles Iowa, why should UGA get a mulligan?

Same reason Alabama did in 2017, I geuss?

Crap. I could go on and on tearing apart your "thoughts", but I fully understand that this is a troll thread. because if you are serious, then you need to have your posting privileges revoked.

It should be, imo. Of course, I still don't think Alabama should have made the championship game in 2011, regardless of whether they were the best team available.

There's a system in place and it should be honored. For example, you could make a good argument that Texas deserved the '77 title, Arkansas or Michigan State in '65, but "you gotta fall after you lose your bowl game", so they weren't even considered. This allowed teams with worse records, or resumes, to win the title, but that's how the system has always worked and you don't just change it for Alabama or Notre Dame.

That’s not the purpose of the playoff or the mission the committee is charged to accomplish. They are supposed to pick the 4 best teams.

No conference championship should be an elimination game IF the teams are clearly top four teams AND have a representative win-loss record.

A 2-loss bama, ie. the tide loses to Georgia, is likely out of the mix if Cincinnati beats Houston… If Oklahoma State and Cincinnati both lose, I could see justification for 2-loss bama being in the four team playoff.

There’s a lot in play this weekend… the wolverines, cowboys, bearcats and tide must win to ensure they’re invited…

As a Bama fan I have to say this is a dumb post. It's because this game isn't a playoff game so it shouldn't be an elimination game. Georgia is one of the four best teams. And even if they lose they certainly shouldn't drop out of the top 4. Heck you could make a case for keeping them number 1.

No. Just teams that haven’t played won their division, much less conference

*cough*alabama and tOSU*cough*

Eta
I forgot about Notre Dame. Man that was some bullshite, but then again, they only had one loss and it was in the conference championship game.
