They still have the rivers kid thought right? He seemed pretty decent. I think they'll win around 6 again this year an hopefully someone else will hire franklin away or they will continue to beat us.

Record wise they did, but I think they were actually better last year. Also, I think they return their stud RB as a senior as well as a now more experienced QB. I am not looking forward to playing them this year. Nothing much to gain by beating them and everything to lose. They are dangerous IMO.

If Vandy makes it to a bowl game and wins 2 or more SEC games, then that is a great season. Given the disadvantages of being a private school, small relative to other SEC schools, horrible facilities, very little fan support, relative lack of financial support, playing in the SEC, etc., making a bowl is a huge accomplishment. NOBODY in the SEC should be losing to Vanderbilt in football and they shouldn't be close to a bowl game when you look at these factors.
You need to put any "hype" they are getting in perspective.

Because Vandy is like MSU, both are perennial bottom feeders in the SEC. Any time they have a shot at a winning season and a bowl game there will be hype before the season begins. Problem is, more times than not they fall on their asses.

Vandy: every true SEC fan's second favorite SEC team.

Best recruiting class in Vandy history, good young coach, and coming off a successful campaign last season which could very well have ended in an 10-2 record (four SEC games decided by a TD or less) instead of 6-6. Looking at the schedule I would say a 7-5 or 8-4 record is a possibility.
Vandy had the most returning starters in the whole NCAA. They would have won just as many games if they still had Bobby Johnson. The interim coach even admitted he is not a head coach. If they would have hired anyone capable two years ago, they would have had at least 4 wins.
Vandy was also a trap game for most teams, coaches looked ahead, Franklin's mouth will cause teams not to do that this year.
Before claiming he is a good coach, look at Dennis Erickson's first year at ASU or Gary Crowton's first year at BYU. Franklin hasn't even beaten anyone with a winning record.

Their offense was mediocre at best last year. Defense kept them in games, and they lost Barnes, Heyward, Richardson, and Fugger, their best players. There is no excuse for Auburn to not beat Vandy by at least 2 tds.

The Vandy game was UT's Superbowl.

Its funny to here a losing program like SMU whining about some other team being overhyped. As for the Tennesse goobers who keep telling us Franklin is gone next year, will see about that. We will have a 4 billion dollar endowment nest egg by the end of the year and money talks. We are currently paying the man 2.5 million and will pay more if necessary. Several schools tried to peal Tim Corbin away but have been unsucessful. As for the fallen program called the big orange, they will never be able to recruit with their most hated rivals to the south because they do not have the in state talent to do so.

LOL, wut? Franklin will be at Vandy longer than Dooley lasts at UT. That's a fact.
Can't really tell about Franklin's coaching abilities yet, but the guy can clearly get it done on the recruiting trail. He's as good as Vandy could hope for right now.
Having said all that, I don't get the hype for Vandy either.

James Franklin is basically Lane Kiffin, but because people don't hate Vanderbilt like they do Tennessee, they're getting a lot of hype.

Why is that? If he's such a good coach, there's going to be better opportunities than Vanderbilt.

I would be shocked if the athletic department (if you had one) would have access to that endowment.
Endowments are usually for bragging rights and for the academic side of things.
Maybe it's different at UF since we can support Football with football money. I really don't know how Vandy pays for football.
