Why is there so much talent in Georgia?

Watching this high school football game. Graphic comes up showing that Florida is No. 1 in 4 star recruits, Texas is second, Georgia is third and California is fourth.
Play by play announcer points out that Georgia's population is way smaller than the other states and asks the color commentator how Georgia still has just as many good football players. Color Commentator wants to say "Well, Bob, it's because there are way fewer Mexicans in Georgia and way more black folks." Can't do it, however. He likes his job and knows better.

Large population of stud athletes. Not hard to figure out. Same with Florida, Texas and California.

Wrong. Vermont has the most talent. Followed by New Hampshire, Maine, and Rhode Island.

Is "stud athletes" code for black people, or are you just trying to be diplomatic and noncommittal like the color commentator when Bob asked him the question.

Georgia has a lot of athletes, good high school coaches, and better booster clubs than a lot of surrounding states. It’s also very easy to recruit kids in ATL from one HS to the next.
There is also an extremely high number of pro athletes….football, basketball, and baseball who retire to Atlanta, like more than any other city, and their kids play ball.

(1) The entire South has great athletes. Anyone with half a brain understands why.
(2) Georgia is bigger than those other Southern states, so there are more kids.
(3) Georgia is richer than those other Southern states, and because of that they pay their coaches more than other states which means the depth of very good coaching is as good as anywhere in the country.
(4) Georgia (and specifically Atlanta) has a large, wealthy and educated black population. So on top of producing athletic kids, the area produces a lot of athletic kids who also are good students and played in programs with nice facilities and solid training. There aren't nearly as many raw project type kids as there are in Mississippi and parts of Louisiana and Alabama.

Is this the State of Georgia or the Republic of Georgia? Because the Republic of Georgia produces the best cornhole talent around.

The drop off in CA is crazy. 5 years ago, they had 58 blue chippers in the 2018 class. Now they only have 29 in the 2023 class.

1. HS football in Georgia is huge. Especially for small towns that have little else going own.
2. Lot's of black kids who play sports their entire lives and country strong white kids. Baseball is also huge down there starting bat a young age.
3. Georgia is just a hardcore sports state in general.

The reality of football talent in GA isn't about race. It's simply about what the talented athletes choose to do.
There is a LOT more pressure in GA to play football than other sports. Going through high school 25 years ago, coaches would put pressure on kids who showed out in other sports to play football. There's a lot of expectation to go that direction. Hell, I was a swimmer and would have been a pretty crappy football player I think, but I still had to fight of coaches who because of my size and height wanted me to be a TE because of a lack of depth at that position one year.
From experience, that's much less common in NC (where I started high school despite finishing in GA). In fact, basketball was the king sport in the Durham area of NC. From what I understand it's similar in other places.
A tall athletic kid who can jump likely focuses on basketball in NC rather than football in SC. Maybe he even plays volleyball in california. In other states a big strong guy might do the shot put or be a wrestler as their primary sport. In some places outside of the south east a guy who'd be a QB in GA is just playing pitcher on the baseball team.
Yes, kids can do multiple sports, but one is usually the focus and in GA a lot of pressure is there to put football first for elite athletes. Even for second or third tier guys too (which is where optimistically I would have been).
That's the real reason more than anything else.

While football in Georgia is fantastic, the sport in which the state is even better (IMHO) is baseball - especially in metro Atlanta.
The number of kids sprinkled on college, Milb and Major League rosters from Metro Atlanta is in the thousands every single year. It's just incredible how many elite players are scattered across the Metro Area - from Northwest Cobb down to Stockbridge to Gwinnett and over to Paulding County. Future MLB players everywhere.
