This board loves to pretend only LSU fans act like fanatics. Granted we are worst behaved compared to all the rest, but only because we have better food and booze than the rest. We could have a 9am kick off and we'd be good and liquored up before coin toss.

Seems odd to want to avoid that matchup so badly.
Well I can think of 1 reason, it will be a media "SHI*" Show as opposed to a good New Years day bowl game between 2 teams with 9-3 type records.
If I am LSU, I tell the SEC behind the scenes if Notre Dame goes to the old outback bowl, then let TENN at 8-4 have that spot and LSU goes to say the Texas Bowl and maybe play Kansas state again with this time hopefully a a fuller roster. Malik as of now wants to play the bowl game to set the all-time LSU WR receiving yards record and if he plays, there are suggestions that JD will play if he has at least 1 of his top 2 WR. Lacey LSU's #3 will play and is expected to return to LSU next year (he has the extra COVID year).

Absolutely not. You take the best bowl allotment you can get. Who cares about the opponent? Just beat whomever they put in front of you. I'm glad you're not the AD.
