They will somehow have 8 guys drafted but are “underdogs”, if doing the least with the most was a team

Biggest concern is a lack of depth at DB, LB and RB.

Kelly said he's comfortable with a shite load of his linebackers.

Well they have a very tough schedule, a coach with a mediocre record behind him. new people at most skill positions, the culture has been if they lose early, the team quits. So yeah, 7 wins may be the over.

This isn't a knock on them or Kelly, but coaching changes at programs that are in decline generally take a year to get back up to speed.

See Bama with Saban, UF with Meyer, UGA with Kirby.

You have to set the right tone and some kids who were part of the previous regime may not buy in.

Most books have them at 7 wins. I don’t get it and 10 wins seems realistic.

They recruit well, upgraded coaching staff, best WRs and possibly DL in the SEC.

What am I missing?

I am not sure what they have on defense, at QB and OLine. But yeah. I agree with you. They look to me like they can be very dangerous. I suspect they will be fine on the front 7 on defense and at QB. Depth is the biggest concern, I guess?

I’m just excited to see them play. I can 100% guarantee you they are headed in the right direction now.

I mean you said a lot of positions were "average at best" when you actually have no way of knowing, Diddler.

If there is no way of knowing then it's Schroedinger's LSU. Both good and terrible until we find out which one it is.

Kelly is the HC! Plus, other SEC west teams are already set since Kelly is in his first year at LSU. Arkansas, MSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and possible Auburn are ahead of schedule. Meaning those teams have a head start and got the team ready for this year while Kelly has ways to go to get his team ready. Not going to be easy to beat any of those teams.

To answer your question honestly, it’s because we have to prove it. We have gotten the benefit of the doubt in years past (Miles era), but after two straight seasons of subpar play, we’re in an “earn it” year. It isn’t like we were bereft of talent last year or the year before, we just played like arse. Coaching, I believe had a lot to do with it. However, with half the roster still there, who knows how many of these issues will remain? I do think we’ll excel in pass rush, and I think our OL will be improved. QB doesn’t have much experience outside of Daniels, but they’re all high upside guys (again, prove it situation here). Secondary has me concerned just because it’s been so awful the past two years, but Kelly said confidence is rapidly growing in this group. WR will be dominant. It’s much deeper than just Boutte; we have 4-5 SEC starters on the roster right this moment. RB has potential, but no one has done it on the field yet. TE is thin as any position we’ve ever had, and LBs are going through a rework. I think we’ll be solid this year with major improvements coming in the next two years. As long as we demonstrate better fundamentals (i.e.: tackling, communication on the back end, and decisive QB play), I’ll be very pleased.

ETA: I’d be remiss to go without mentioning that the West has upped its game. MS State and Ole Miss have gotten their act together, A&M is getting better, and Arkansas looks really solid right now. Auburn is always a wild card.

No doubt. Even though Orgeron won you a title, he turned out to be what you pretty much expected him to be and what his past indicated he would be.

Only time will tell how good Kelly is, but he has been solid in the past, and I would expect him to be solid at LSU. He'll recruit ok and coach well. I honestly don't believe he will make people sit up and be amazed, but he will be very solid, and could bring you another title. I agree you are headed in the right direction, and I suspect LSU fans are ready to put the past two seasons behind them and look like the old LSU....tough and physical.

I hope you enjoyed your couple of years of winning 8 or 9 games and not being a joke for once. You will be the west bottom feeder again soon enough. You don’t have resources, your coach is more worried about Twitter than coaching, and you haven’t had a 10 win season in 50 years. Your program will always be average at best. Have a good one
